The Smooth Collie is a breed of dog developed originally for herding. It is a short-coated version of the Rough Collie of Lassie fame. Some breed organisations consider the smooth-coat and rough-coat dogs to be variations of the same breed.

Got my SC from rescue 6 months ago. As a woman living alone, I so appreciate his alertness and big deep bark. He only barks when appropriate. He also is very protective of me over different things, a pushy dog at the dog park, a deer in the back yard, the vacuum cleaner. He is also very concerned about our schedule, lets me know if I'm off track at lunchtime or time to go to bed. So funny! He is very smart.

People need to know how much exercise they need, they really love to run! I've got the impression that they are much more 'vivid' than the long haired collies. My smooth collie was the sweetest being I've ever known, these 'Lassie' films did not have to fantasize, it's totally true!

I have had 3 smoothies. They were smart, loyal and beautiful. All of the good qualities of the Rough Collie without the long hair.

I lost my blue merle smooth collie after 14 years in January. He was the quietest dog I have ever known !

My rough collie was amazing, better than most people under stress. She was a barkaholic, which some are, and needed a lot of grooming given all of the hair.

I found a male tricolour rough Collie in an animal shelter of all places back in 2006. He was an amazingly gentle and intelligent boy who immediately became part of the family. He passed in 2017 but was the beginning chapter in our love of collies.

The main con is that they are extremely rare and difficult to find. I have two rough collies and would love a smooth but the breed is non-existent in my country

I have a tri smooth collie and a blue Merle rough collie my smooth is very protective when it comes to me and people running near me or behind me she also picks up on bad people love my collies to the moon and back ♥️

@@animalplatoon my smooth collie barks to alert me when she hears some one my rough collie doesn't bark at all not even when someone s at the door there both the greatest I can say they have sensitive stomachs and can be sensitive to sound and don't like fireworks or loud noises I will always have a collies there the best breed s and loyal and love me unconditionally and shelties and cocker spaniel and labs are great too and doberman s since I have experience with those breeds too

Smooth collies can also work livestock on the farms not just do herding trials.

Smooth collies do not need to wear coats in the cold wether and snow. My smooth boy works sheep all day in temps below 30F.
