@@jlcmsw Thanks. :) I feel more comfortable on stage than I do off it. I never know what to do or say in 'real life' but on stage I've rehearsed everything that was written for me and know what I'm expected to do. Unless it's improv. I cannot do improv. I feel like everything I think of saying is gonna be stupid and I won't say it. :P So yeah, I love being on stage... when I've rehearsed a script. :P

Many simply do not know how lupus can damage internal organs, especially the lungs. There can be life-threatening bleeding in the lungs in addition to repeated pleurisy. Michael recalls in his book Moonwalk: "I was messing around in the surf, and all of a sudden I couldn't breathe. No air. Nothing. I asked myself what's wrong? I tried not to panic, but I ran back to the house to find Jermaine, who took me to the hospital. It was wild. A blood vessel had burst in my lung. It has never reoccurred, although I used to feel little pinches and jerks in there that were probably my imagination. I later learned that this condition was related to pleurisy. It was suggested by my doctor that I try to take things a little slower, but my schedule would not permit it. Hard work continued to be the name of the game."

In the Smooth Criminal short film, he used cables to perform the lean. In the live performances, he used his own patented shoe design that stuck to the floor, allowing him to lean without falling over. He did it perfectly in the 1992 Bucharest performance.

In the Smooth criminal film, he also did it with the bolts in the floor and the shoes (you can see them 'unclicking' their shoes in the music video at 7:07). The cables were only used to make sure nobody hurt themselves on accident.

Oh yeah, no special shoes for this one. I don't think he'd had invented them yet so yeah he just does a lean til he's about to fall then walks on. The shoes would allow him to lean much further and obviously raise himself up again. I know that knowing the trick 'spoils the magic' for some folk but I still think it's super impressive he even came up with the shoes and has the strength in his core and legs to lean so far with them and rise up completely straight. Amazing performance and yeah, live vocals and sounds fantastic.

If you watch the Smooth Criminal short film look closely at the bottom left guy doing the lean you can just about make out a line above him that moves with him. And when they rise up straight it then cuts to another angle which is likely when wires have been removed and they copy the pose they were in to make it seem like they were continuously dancing. The shoes only came about when Michael decided he absolutely wanted to be able to perform the full lean effect live on stage in front of a live audience and appear totally seamless.

@@e.s.7272 Yeah, he is still absolutely defying gravity with the shoes on, cos most people would just flop down from the waist or even break their ankles because they haven't trained and strengthened the required muscles like he and his back up dancers had done. And yeah, I've never believed magicians perform real magic, what impresses me is the ingenuity and skill that comes from making it APPEAR to be magical. :) Kinda the same with movies, when Jurassic Park first came out in 1993 we all knew dinosaurs didn't actually come back to life but the skill and technology in making them look they had back then was what amazed audiences. :)

The lean is introduced better in later performances! Then he does it fully. The dance routine starting at 5:00 will be replaced by the now famous anti-gravity lean.

I actually never noticed he did that lean attempt before. He worked out some technical details and it's much better by the Dangerous Tour. Dangerous is my second favorite album, can't wait for you to get to that era. Yes he's so fantastic live. On top of the amazing singing and dancing, it's almost like you get to hang out with him for a while. The way he could connect with his audience is also amazing.

Oh yeeeeah , smooth criminal performance 🔥🔥🔥 i love looooove it I can't even describe man 🌟🌟 Ok i need to calm down 😅😅 About the lean , yeah seph at this time the shoes technique was not invented by Michael yet, soooo he was doing it by himself here 😍😍without any special effects and this lean was about 75 to 65 degree and the beginning of the song ( the speaking section) was a part of the song this place hotel in previous tours The dance technique was so so so rich as it contains the moonwalk, the lean, the attitude of the original song, the jumping walk (that what i called it ) and so many others ❤❤ And with all of this awesomeness in this performance but my favourite best smooth criminal performance is in the next tour so u can imagine the level of perfection of the next era ✨✨ that's why i keep telling u that u have seen nothing yet .... 5:45 he leaned here as well. He leans 2 times like that all the time on his 1988 bad tour. This is the first performance where he changes his clothes, he put on the iconic Smooth Criminal white jacket and hat!🔥(he still has the grey jacket on though under the white one if you noticed, same with the trousers, he doesnt have the white trousers like in the short film). And omg, i love the Smooth Criminal choreography🔥 And about that lean, it was a fake one lol. For the Bad Tour, they didnt find a way to do it live yet. They managed to design the stage to do it live from the Dangerous Tour on, the next tour he's done to promote the next album you will listen to, Dangerous. So Seph i cant wait till you get to the Dangerous Tour and the Dangerous Era in general🔥
