Try 5th fret D root on a caged E pentatonic form to start yourself out. It has a nice sound that transitions nicely to the resolutions during play. I tried to focus on diad and triad voicing while working the scale to stretch my ear and skill. Thank you for these, you are making me a better player :)

Wow. Simply amazing. I'm currently learning music theory but still solely play off feeling, due to not being able to translate any of what I have learnt into practice because it is only the basics. But despite that, I have played guitar for 8 years and was able to shred out a lovely little improv session based off feeling to this wonderful track. Thank you so much!

What you call C frygian here is nothing else than the A flat major or the natural F minor scale. I'm serious.
@luukwoudstra89037 жыл бұрын
Stephan Weidt can you explain that?
@stephanweidt-guitar7 жыл бұрын
I'll try. Excuse that maybe my English is not so good. C frygian is the third level of A flat major. A flat major is the parallel key to F minor. You can call the scale you play C frygian or natural F minor - the notes are the same -, but the reference point in this backing track is F, not C, and the key is F - so it should be F minor here, not C frygian. - I hope, I used the right English terms and you understand what I mean.
@luukwoudstra89037 жыл бұрын
Stephan Weidt I understand. but there are 7 modes and they're all using the same notes. so in wich case i'm actually playing in C phrygian?

The chord at 4:46 (and anywhere else it occurs) is not an F7#5 as "advertised" (notated in the chord bar). There is an Ab at the top of that chord. There is no Ab in an F7#5 chord. What plays is actually an F7b10 (flat third high in the structure), or as more usually notated in jazz charts, an F7#9. The sharp ninth is an Ab/G#, the note we hear at the top in the audio. I prefer to call it a flat third or better, flat tenth, since it has to occur high in the structure to work. It creates a kind of bluesy grit against the lower major third in the F7. It evolved from the blues, which typically alternates between a major and minor third in the blues scale. So I prefer to call it a flat third or tenth, since it is a pleasantly gritty chord that reflects this tonal ambiguity in the blues and therefore does NOT function tonally as a sharp ninth. Calling it a sharp ninth is probably just easier for people reading charts to understand quickly. For the same reason, we often see diminished seventh chords over a note at the bottom a major third below the diminished seventh. This is just a way to help naïve readers get it right, since many rhythm guitarists, for example, would not understand what a C7m9 means. Calling it an Edim7/C takes care of that problem, but it's kind of silly from a consistent theory of harmony point of view. After all this time no replies. Hmmm....guess no one knows what the heck I'm talking about.

Hello Elite Backing Tracks. I'm totally "new" to improvising. If a backing track is in this case, in F minor, do I use the F minor scale to improvise? In other words, does the scale you use to improvise have to be the same key as the backing track? Thanks.
@tancredidaltavilla2141 Жыл бұрын
CIao Melanie, surely you can start to the scale, and if a scale is not suggested (in many cases you can find backing tracks where it is suggesed i.e. C misolidian ..., he scale of the tone could be right. But trie to listen to what you are doing, the note you play should belong to the chord you read in that moment, otherwise it could happen some cacophony. You can also try to play first the chords (if are complicate for you, make the basic chord) and them only che the note that give the name to the chord the "root" (as a bassist). Then add some notes (from the Fm scale) to pass from a root to arrive to other root. Them try to use as liking notes all the notes in the middle, the chromatic scale (it shall be beautiful in some cases and in other cases no: thy). A last (but in this case you have to study for every chord the name and where are on the keyboard the "special" notes of the chord: for special note I mean the 9, the 7M, the b13 etc. (if there are a lot of chords, you can copy them on paper a write under the chord the name of the "special" note and tray to use also them sometimes.

+Francesco Matteo Bera Hey Francesco! Thanks for you question! I would suggest using a F harmonic minor, or a F natural minor (aeolian) for most of the track, but maybe change it up a little when you play over the dominant (C7b), and try out some half-diminished, whole-tone scale, or chromatics. :) Hope that helps!
