This is a jam track for drummers inspired by funk, jazz and fusion music, and the tempo is 120 bpm. There is a click/metronome which runs throughout to make it easier to stay in time.

Anyone else feel like fills shouldn’t be practiced? Like yea obviously go over the ones you know but always try to come up w them spontaneously? Right? Or wrong?

It's a balance. Every time you learn a fill, your muscle memory retains that movement and over time it becomes second nature. It's important to improvise fills but first you must practice simple phrases to pre-program the movements into your muscles (and brain). Fills are applied rhythms, so the most important thing to build first is a rhythmic vocabulary.

You definitely wanna have those folks down. Like Dave said, "Rhythmic Vocabulary" & all. Have the basic important stuff down pact and nothing, but like Davie said, second nature. Then when you can throw those down while completely zoned out, you work on your own flavor. Add that good ole Natural Creativity to those Wonderful basics that are the foundation of our craft.
