We used to see this all over the place back home, not so much where I'm at now. really pretty and distinctive plant. I'd love to try the drink though. We foraged for a lot of wild plants, but that wasn't one back then. More often we would gather and eat teaberries instead.

Ooo, I have never had teaberries. I grew up around sumac, but I didn't know it was edible until I started gardening. The sour berries are a nice treat on my walks lately, and the blackberries are ripe now too.

@@GiveitaGrow ooo love blackberries! not sure how far teaberries range are, would have to look it up, but you can eat both berries and leaves... used to make gum out of the flavoring too

I want to try to make the spice now.

When I made it, it was red. The redder the berries, will give it a red tint.

Nice! I have tried this several times but it never got red for me.

Sadly I don't think the sumac plants here in the UK are the same variety. I have only seen ornamentals. I think I would like this drink.

Its good. I was expecting it to be red after seeing so many other videos.

Growing up in Michigan we called it POISON Sumac and were warned not to touch it.

Poison sumac has wider leaves with 7+ leaflets. It also lacks the red berry cluster on top.

Poison sumac has whiteish yellow berries and the clusters point down. The safe red stuff will point up like a horn.

I love using sumac in place of paprika in my cooking. I bought a pound on amazon and put it in a shaker bottle.

Sounds great! I want to try to make the spice sometime.

Does it have a Kool Aid flavor? Because that is tangy and sour as well.
@GiveitaGrow4 ай бұрын
Its very similar to lemonade.

I think that maybe if you rub the berries it will be red and be stronger/go further.

Sounds good. (I'm into DIY yogurt and water kefir right now.) Any information on nutrition?
