Oh man.... I just tried this method with a bunch of rusty old hooks that I was molding and YOU SAVED ME SO MUCH TIME! I love this method. I'm now going to try filling a box with old star wars figures lying on their backs and see if I can make "Carbonite bathroom tiles". Perfect technique for this project!

I've asked this before. I'll ask again. Would you do a video or two on SHOE SOLES and soft SHOE INSERTS? Also could this quick foam be used as a buffer between the rubber sole and the shoe itself? Would it be crush resistance? Would it hold up to every day use?
@smoothon
@smoothon 4 жыл бұрын
James, our Flexfoam-it! 17 or 25 would be most suitable for this. As for the shoe soles / inserts video, we have it on our list to look into.

I'd like to use expanding foam to make a glass fiber/carbon fiber insole, more specificly to fill the hollow space underneath the arch support. Unlike to what one might expect, the foam should not be flexible, but rigid and lightweight, while supporting the weight of a runner. Which one would you recommend, if weight saving/strength-to-weight ratio is the major concern? And do you think mixing foam with chopped fibers could increase the siffness of the material?

project video suggestion: tool shadowing (for tool inventory), small stuff like; sockets and ratchets. like making your own blow-molded case. The mold will be the finished piece rather than using the mold for casting.

Thank you for this video, I learn a lot every time. I've done a lot of experiments with cold casting (dusting the mold method). The hard part is trying to varnish or clear coat after because it will loose it's shine after a week or two. I have tried different products but everytime I loose that metallic effect, have you got any sucess on this ? Another thing is that cold casting gives much better results with harder resins like the onyx rather than soft resins like smooth-cast 57D.

I wonder if this would be useful in making foam casted parts for aluminum cavity casting. Make the foam part, bury it in the casting sand, fill it with the molten aluminum. Would this type of foam vaporize like styrofoam?
@smoothon
@smoothon 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. I would not suggest melting this foam away with molten aluminum. The styrofoam or what you are currently using is going to be a better choice.

Which Foam-it would you recommend for protective guards/ducts for a FPV drone? I am looking for a foam that is mostly rigid and holds it shape at at thickness of 0.5-0.75in, but won't crush/crumble under high impact, but will flex under high loads.

As long as the water used in the alginate is free of contaminants, the Alja-Safe will not inhibit platinum silicone.
