It makes me sad and nostalgic too. Not only because George is no longer with us but because it reminds me of many happy Christmas’ when this song was being played in the background. Too many stars of his generation have died too soon (Whitney Huston, Michael Jackson and Prince to name but three). I think it hits home more being of a similar age. RIP George and sister Melanie.

Andrew is so charming, still. My favourite Christmas song. Like any George Michael/Wham fan, I so miss him. I remember Christmas 2016 while listening to it (crank up the volume) I said to my mom "NOBODY will ever sing that song like he did". Found out just hours later that he died. Shocked doesn't describe it and then last Christmas (2019) George's sister, Melanie passed away. Sad day for that family.

Remember at the time, being a massive Duran fan, when Last Christmas came out. Being a Durranie, I was'nt supposed to like stuff released by Wham. To be honest though, the first time Iii heard it, I had goose bump's. Way better than anything Duran had released up to that point. It's just a pure catchy sing along pop song, that is for me, the perfect ten. Hey, you must give credit where it's due. Still like Duran by the way !!!

When I first heard this song as a kid. I always thought the song was meant to represent how much we loved Christmas, only for it to end the next day. ("Last Christmas I gave you my heart") I thought this meant I gave you my all and you were what I mostly looked forward too. ("But the very next day, you give it away.") And this finally mean to me as a kid who never paid attention to the lyrics: After all my thoughts and feelings put to this particular day, I didn't receive much and ended the next day.

Listen without prejudice is still is one the greatest albums ever.... i have read his biography way way back and he was till leaving in Bushey London near Watford even when they hit it big. George quoted that after top of the pops there was no big cars etc. he went back home by the tube. decent guy. Andrew here got some of the royalties from the WHAM! songs even if George had written them thats how George was. still miss George he was part of my musical life.

George knew the Barry Manilow song, a"Can't Smile Without You" which you can sing right over top of it. He didn't realize the same chord progression and similarity had influenced him. I would have liked to have heard more about the production as in the Linn drum programming and the synth bass. Whether Chris Cameron help play and program the keyboard parts. Whether a programmer helped them get the bell timbres. How long (weeks ? months? George spent tweeking the arrangement? Did Chris Porter add to the creativity at all? Did George play the bass line or program by himself or did Deon Estus give him any input or advice? To me.... the clever little arrangement, the vocals and the exact way it was produced and recorded is the "real story" of Last Christmas!

However, the process was not easy: “George wasn’t a musician,” says Porter, “he had no training on instruments at all.” He nevertheless insisted on doing everything himself. “It was a laborious process, because he was literally playing the keyboards with two or three fingers,” he says.”
