People watching this now have no idea how much of a BIG DEAL this video was and how much hype there was around this. This was probably the year Food Battle peaked in popularity, after Food Battle 2011 was such a hit. There was SO much hype around FB2012. Before it was even announced, half the comments of every new video was "Where is Food Battle 2012?!" This Food Battle's hype train was fuelled by a whole massive trailer and series of videos where Ian was "in the underworld" and having to escape. Voting for the food was like a tournament, and all the foods had these little promotional clips getting us to vote on them. There was SOOO much promotion and hype for this video and for the teenage Smosh stans of the day, counting down the days to this video's release day was like a 5-year-old waiting for Christmas. I also think this is where FB peaked in quality (and weirdness) too - they definitely dialed things back after this year and made things more simple again. Maybe they feared it was getting too complicated.
