Honestly it feels like they didnt want to solve Shayne's fear so they put him in Hell rather then something that would actually, help him. I think it might be that shayne's fear is less of a catastrophic phobia, like he can see them or be around them but is deeply uncomforted by them. With liv it was more of an irrational phobia so they knew what he reaction would be and how she would need to be more taken care of

Okay but for real, those who don’t have a fear of butterflies don’t have a clue what it’s like to have that phobia, but I think this episode did an effective job at showing a perspective that we often don’t see. I felt Olivia’s fear as soon as the camera zoomed in on the large butterfly display (5:50-5:52). I never really thought about how alien-like they seemed to those with this fear and now I kind of have an idea of it. And the second she screamed after they opened the butterfly box I felt exactly how real that fear was (7:47). I appreciate them supporting Olivia through it, it shows a great amount of friendship they all have (especially Shayne). Very proud of Olivia especially, she did a wonderful job at facing her fear. 💙

I have a fear of butterflies, not this extreme but only in like a butterfly sanctuary. Same with birds. If it’s just one, cool. It’s just minding it’s own business. If it’s a group, I’m the one invading their space, I could very well be a target if they’re trying to make me leave. TL;DR I get this fear but on the opposite end of the spectrum. I would not be able to face my fear in a flooding manner like this, it would all have to be gradual and for that, anyone who can be flooded and make it through, it makes me so happy and proud for them.

Not to sound corny but seeing the butterflies landing/chilling on Shayne was lowkey symbolic lol. Like he was so kind and sweet and supportive of Olivia. I'm sure some of it stems from his psychology degree, but he's also just such a good friend the way he comforted her. "Don't feel stupid." Like, he's right. Phobias are weird and irrational. He's so goofy and funny usually but seeing him like this is very humanizing. It's how we should all be to our friends struggling, even if it may seem silly to most.

I don’t think Shayne has any actual phobias. When asked what his biggest fear was, I think he picked the closest thing he had, which at most is just being creeped out by dolls. He played up his fear for the camera, and the Smosh crew knew that. Olivia meanwhile has a legitimate phobia of butterflies, so they had to be a lot more understanding in order to get her through it
