True in effect, but the point being that it wasn't malicious as such even when that would've been fully justified, much less was it even her intent to inflict harm. She was so clearly focused on doing everything possible to hedge her bets of coming out on top, her judgment was completely unclouded by the shitstorm around her, she wasted no energy being vindictive and ultimately did better than 99% of people coulda done to ensure the best outcome for everyone primarily her kids. This is exactly why she is the GoaT. 🐐💃

The biggest red flag for the hiking story is that the moment he was confronted about his plan, he immediately deflected any blame towards himself being saying "oh my body's just reacting to your desirable features, my biological responses" Also the fact that he thought "the hike is around 3 hours, but no that isn't enough time to chat with this woman we need AT LEAST SIX HOURS"

The hiking story: We are just glossing over that that man still thinks he has a shot? Or, more so, he absolutely refuses to take "no" for an answer. @@thedudefromrobloxx you are deciding to diagnose a predator you know only from a post, and chronically online is sadly not true since this woman had to experience the terror of him isolating her and sexually harrassing her. We have to bring femicide into this discussion. Femicide is when women are murdered because they're women, or out of hatred for women. Every single day 238 women are killed intentionally, according to United Nations Population statistics. These murders are typically committed by (in most cases cis-male) exes. We have to raise awareness about this problem. And we have to keep femicide in the backs of our heads when we read stories like these. A pregnant woman shares with us how she, her children and her father were chased by a violent ex (who had to be restrained during an earlier meeting with all parents).

Exactly! Also with fanfic you can get pretty much immediate feedback from a decently wide variety of readers, so not only are you getting in your practise, you’re also actively receiving tips on how to make it even better. Whenever I’m in doubt about a particular scene for original stories, I write something similar into a fic to gauge people’s reaction to it. It’s practical, it’s fun, it’s low stakes since it’s just a hobby and doesn’t equate to your income, and it can put you into contact with a whole community of people with the same interest as you!

i think as well her being pregnant with a dying father & already having two very young kids made it very easy for the parents to back her. the grandparents obviously want to foster a good relationship with their grandkids & ensure they are kept safe & happy. turning on the OP & defending their son would have just meant they lost their grandchildren. & OP mentioned a few times that her former best friend has been problematic, as well as how they grew up together from babies. so her parents likely see OP as a second daughter & having their actual daughter hurt her in this way when she is so vulnerable (again, pregnant, young kids, dying father) was the last straw for them. i know they mentioned finding the parents reactions rare & refreshing, but given all the variables at play here i think only a monster would be against OP in this scenario.

Update for Tyler & Jess Story 9 days ago: First off unfortunately her father has passed away and OP is doing okay as she knew it was coming but still has her bad days. Tyler has ghosted her and her kids( I say her Kids cause he no contact and doesn’t seem to care) He is remarried and has a kid on the way. His parents were sent an invitation but refused to go. Jess however is a different story, not too long ago she snuck into OPs house while OP was cooking and Jake was outside with the kids. OP held Jess at knifepoint screaming at her to get out. Jake heard the yelling came in and restrained her. Jess began yelling she came there to beg for forgiveness and then yelled she would ruin OPs life. The police got involved and Jess lied her butt off saying she was lured over there and Jake attacked her. The cops did not buy her story and a protection order was put in place. Then OP contacted the school and alerted them and made it crystal clear who were the only people allowed to pick up the kids just in case. To end on a more happy note, Jake has left the military has been back since Christmas and they are dating but taking it slow.

UPDATE: Just wanted to come back for a small update :) Baby is here! He was born slightly premature but no nicu stay was needed. He was 5lbs 9oz and 19” and absolutely beautiful. Angie was in the room with me when I had him while MIL stayed with the other littles. My older two are obsessed with their baby brother and it makes my heart happy. MIL and Angie are taking turns spending the night and days with me for the first six weeks until we get acclimated. I told them they didn’t have to but they insisted. Honestly I’m grateful for it. I can feel the waves of PPD trying to drag me under and my mental health really hasn’t been doing so good (don’t worry my therapist knows and we’re working through it). Knowing that this baby never gets to know and feel the love of my dad has really been hurting and the fact that this is the only grand baby he didn’t get to meet. I miss him like crazy and wish he was still here. Jake was planning on staying in for another two years to retire but they offered him “early retirement” (not because anything going on with me or this whole situation, there was a situation at work. He didn’t do anything wrong lol) so within the next six months he’ll be moving back home. He’s going to try house hunting and find a place before he comes home but since he isn’t allowed to take any leave during this time to view places since he has to work on his exit stuff there’s a chance he’ll be temporarily living with me until he finds a place. No he isn’t moving in permanently lol. He might even just get an apartment for a year and then buy a house. There’s also some drama with Tyler already because he’s pissed I wouldn’t let him in the room when I had baby. So if you want any more updates on that front I’ll provide when I’m not overwhelmed. Love you all, thank you all for being my ear when I need to vent and get everything off my chest. I hope all of your days are wonderful today and everything goes your way. Until next time friends

When someone is vulnerable and has just suffered a betrayal and feels alone, sure, you can think to yourself that letting them know people will still want them and be interested in them and love them is somehow helping, but it's also somewhat predatory if it works in your favor and it can be devastating to them if you've been there as their support through this and they don't want to take it anywhere because no matter how many times you say it doesn't need to go anywhere or even be addressed and that it's okay if they're not interested and you're not going to try to pursue them romantically it can place a seed of doubt into their mind about whether you're being a good friend who is there for them because you love them as a supporting friend or if you have ulterior motives leading to them potentially feeling significantly more alone and betrayed. One of my favorite things to point out about Fanfiction is how The Divine Comedy, by Dante, arguably one of the most well known poems in the world, is literally a self-insert Fanfiction. Like, Dante spends the entire saga painting himself as being BFFs with his favorite writers while he depicts all of his personal opponents and just people he didn't like as suffering in Hell. It doesn't make it any less prolific or meaningful, it just simply is what it is.

He does supervised visits with the kids in a facility. Oh, and the ex bff found the post and commented some delulu crap about how the husband was gonna run away with her and they were in love. In the newest update, however, the ex husband left her high and dry. OP's father passed away about a week after everything happened, unfortunately. The baby has since been born and named after him. OP is still figuring out how to live in a world without him, but she's got her ex MIL and the ex bff's Mom (basically a second mother to her) to help pick up the pieces. And finally, Jack. He had to go back to his base, he couldn't extend his leave any more. They're not a thing for now as OP isn't ready to date, but he's said he'll always be a friend for her.

A lot of fanfics I have written got rewritten into an original story. It made it so easier to get a story out. I was able to develop characters that were more complex histories and backstories. It also helped with world-building. Setting a story in lord of the rings was so easy to transition to my own fantasy world, using Tolkiens' basics of his world building to create my own.

honestly fanfic is such a solid tool for getting an understanding of how other story writing goes. it often gets rid of the need to establish character or setting and lets people focus on more intimate details. and even then some writers fully just do their own thing and could change the names of characters and no one would ever know it started as a fanwork! fic writers are some of the most creative people ive ever met and many of them go on to work in the "industry".

The "Just wanted to get to know her" guy almost made me sympathetic until I realized just how much of a creep he was. As someone with autism I can understand having very formal and blunt language, especially when typing. However, that doesn't excuse his objectification of her and his doubling down when said creepiness was pointed out to him. I can also understand on a base level how, in his mind, this was an opportunity to connect with someone. I can even understand checking out the trail beforehand because he wanted to be prepared. Where I draw the line is that instead of just talking to her during the scheduled three hours of walking, he felt the need to lie to her and mislead her. As a rule of thumb, I don't like lying, but especially during this circumstance. The thought of being stuck on a trail with a stranger for six hours - no matter what issues they may or may not have - but especially if that person is constantly making unwanted advances towards me, is horrifying. And I truly feel for that poor woman. It's really hard to listen to some of these stories because I want to give someone the benefit of the doubt, especially when there are aspects of them I can relate to, but honestly, that guy is so insane that all my sympathy for him evaporated the moment he started objectifying her. And it withered away into nothing the second he started telling her the maps were wrong. This guy definitely needs social interaction, but probably with a therapist first.
@raelrojas5263
@raelrojas5263 8 ай бұрын
This guy needs to be watched, and a therapy not focused on him feeling better but one that is focused on deprogramming his predatorial behaviour. As you say he barely sees her as anything other than an object for him to use, he also continues to think "she will come to her senses" which shows he doesn't respect a "no I never want to see you again". This was isolating and sexually harrassing a woman, but I fear what he could do next.

My heart breaks for the PHD Writer: her ex just bashed her in so many ways and yet he hasn't achieved as much. I personally have a long term hobby of writing original roleplay with a friend and sometimes I think about making parts of it a book but it doesn't have to be. My ex husband would bash my college, my work, so much and yet complained why I wasn't as motivated as before. Bashing and gaslighting are far too common and it destroys the soul. Very relieved the Writer was like /NO/ and didn't even try to communicate with him because he didn't deserve that. Also 100% agree Video Games are far more important and it is a form of visual art that honestly can be better than movies. Addiction happens in anything, and video game addictions have hurt me and others- but I appreciate them and love to watch gameplays mainly for the visual experience. Games aren't silly (usually) they're still a piece of art that's a new level of interactive play.

That op in the PhD story is 100% insecure about her being smarter than him and was looking for something to hold over her head to give himself some form of superiority. I went to undergrad for Creative Writing. It’s not the top program, but we graduated several kids to go to Sarah Lawrence and Iowa (😑). Of the ~10 Fiction majors who intended to write a full novel, I think only one my year actually did so. (Not trying to flex, this story just made me furious. I didn’t end up finishing my novel either.) Also, defending a dissertation is *hard*. There’s tons of academics that go “ABD” for several years. I feel like he didn’t want to understand the work and effort it took her to get the achievements that he’s measuring himself by. (Also, 100K is a solid word count for a YA book before final edits. Especially if it’s intended to be a series. She may be done and just needs a good *friend* to edit with.)

As a fanfic writer, it's not that easy to write something good in fandoms. Everyone criticizes you because of how you portray the characters, getting hits or kudos is extremely hard. I have mad respect for successful fanfic writers.
@spectrum4524
@spectrum4524 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I'll add the caveat that I have even more respect for fanfic writers who succeed to write a story without repeating events from the original source material. Every so often, I see a comment on someone's fanfic complaining how the writer is repeating the same main plot (I mainly read Tensura/Slime fanfics) and it's boring for them to read through them. I click on their account and see zero fanfics published from them and it's ludicrous to make that complaint without trying to write a fully original fanfic while staying true to the personalities of multiple characters themselves. Don't know how it is for you as a writer, but from my experience, writing a fanfic, even if it's unpublished and will never see the light of day, is still very difficult. During quarantine, I decided to create a fanfic combining the worlds and characters of Tensura, Pokémon, Legends of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel 1-4, Persona 3 FES, Persona 4 Golden, Persona 5 Royal & Strikers, and Love Live School Idol Project.... Many weeks go by where I make an edit, only to trash it immediately and end up with barely a few sentences to show for it.

As someone who attempted to write fanfiction, it's a lot of work. You not only have to use these characters and keep in mind these canon events you have to make sure your own characters are unique enough and that their story doesn't end up causing canon characters to act in a way that wouldn't make sense. Its insanely limiting with the stress of trying to create something of your own that fits in and also is different enough to be something of its own and people are brutal when they comment on it.

@@spectrum4524This is somewhat of a weird take, that I disagree with. Writing fanfiction is difficult, and writing good fanfiction is even more so. But to say that someone's criticism of a story holds less value because that person has never written themselves is where I disagree. By this standard, audiences opinions on movies or books hold little value because they haven't made a movie or written a book. The truth is, most fanfiction is cringe, and the reason is because people interpret characters from stories differently, and it's really difficult to portray a character the same way as another author.

I'm screaming with rage on the inside about the boyfriend calling out Abby about her fanfiction. As a 100k+ FF writer myself, that freaking hurts. I also did it as a hobby during Covid, as I was lucky enough to be able to work from home. I stopped writing it because of a troll that finally hit the right nerve, it's been 2 years now and I still make excuses not to write any of the stories because my confident is shot. Abby, if you're reading this, keep doing you. As a fellow FF Author, your ideas are 100% awesome!

Hey, don't know if that helps you with motivation but I currently writing literature at a university in Germany there are not only multiple people who write or appreciate fanfictions them self, but smosh also were very correct on pointing out the inherent worth of fanfiction. If you want to write good, you are not born with that skill you need to practice regularly and everything is better than a blank piece of paper. Also feedback! Sounds like you got a lot of feedback and feedback is one of the most crucial things in writing if you want to make sure that your stuff does not only make sense in your head. Literally our whole writing practice in university is built on those two fundamentals and you got them for free. Additionally, yes of course there is 100% artistic value in fanfiction. So many classics of literature (like The Devin comedy or goethes faust) are built on other mythologies like the bible or Greek mythology, so why would there be any less value you doing that. It's not like Hollywood isn't constantly writing their own fanfictions for Star Wars, Batman or real life events. If anything it just becomes cooler if someone does it just for their own joy instead of for profit:)

Also I mean. "Technically" isn't stuff like new episodes of Doctor Who also 'fanfiction'. The current writers didn't create the main character and many of the characters and Backstories. They're basically like. Those "10 years later" fanfics. The only difference is nobody validated fanfic writers stories with a paycheck. But hey. It's still writing and creativity and ideas and that's great.

I made some good friends during the pandemic over Reddit because we bonded over video game fanfiction. They’re accomplished writers, one of their works still on going. It was so much fun to discuss headcannons, bounce ideas off eachother, and just have fun getting creative over the game. We’ve all read bad ff, but *good* ff takes real skill. It’s a worthy hobby, and can add so much joy to a fandom.

Op that caught her ex husband’s affair has a few more updates: ex husband has gone no contact with op and kids and has remarried with a new kid on the way. Jess showed up to op’s house and caused a scene before involving the cops, tried to pick up her oldest kid from school but was stopped by the staff, and harassed op’s work to get her fired with fake complaints. Op has a Restraining order that is in effect. Jake has moved in and is fully stepped up for Op and kids, promising to adopt the kids when they get married.

There was an update made about two weeks ago in the comments: Hi everyone. I know a lot of people are still asking for an update. Not much has happened but here are the things that have happened. • Tyler discovered the post and asked me if I was seeking a divorce. I said I was. He apologized for losing his cool. Asked if there was any hope for reconciliation, I said no. We did have a conversation about the kids, and he’ll be allowed to see them with supervision to which he agreed to. • I had another meeting with my lawyer, nothing of major importance happened. • Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing has happened with Jake. He didn’t take back his confession but as I said it’s on the back-burner for a long while. My kids health and well-being take priority over all else. • my dads health is on a steady decline. He’s now in the hospital with no release date in the immediate future. Please send over thoughts and well wishes his way. • my kids are adjusting well. We have a therapy appointment for them scheduled next week to help them. My oldest has more questions then the rest but I’m trying to save any big conversations for the therapy appointment so I know I’m conveying the answers in a meaningful and the least harmful way. Also my oldest made try outs for the traveling soccer league, yay! :) oh and the baby is doing great! Things have calmed down a lot. Truly. I feel like I have a better grip on things. I’ve been putting most of my focus on my dad and kids to keep myself busy. Thanks you friends for the love, support, and for checking in ❤️
