Two speeches trending today. One was by Sugata Bose, the acclaimed Harvard University academic and Trinamool Congress MP. The speech was based on hard facts, rationale and reason. The second was by Smriti Irani. Emotional and filled with amazing oratory, but lacking substance and filled with naivety. The first was something like the films Masaan or Piku. The 2nd was somewhat like Prem Ratan Dan payo or Singham. Now we all know ki zyaada kya chalega. Rationale ya emotions? Nobody in India wants to accept the harsh reality, they want escapism. That is what Smriti Irani has provided. Escapism.

+Senan Kamalakanan Sorry, long reply ahead: Quite frankly, the country is in a mess for many reasons, and perhaps mismanagement is one of those things. Yes, the congress had their faults, but just like how you can't blame the bjp on everything happening around right now in this extremely diverse and complex nation, is it logical to blame the congress when it comes to all problems in India? I don't fully support congress, bjp, or aap or any other political party. I support ideas and progress, and if my opinion on certain things match with congress then that doesn't make me a congressi. If my opinions on certain things match with BJP then that doesn't make me a modi bhakth. If my opinions on certain things match with AAP then that doesn't make me a AAPTARD. Therefore I consider myself to be apolitical. On the business and development front, the Modi Government has done great progress so far. But keep in mind, that it is possible to support the Modi Government but NOT support BJP as a whole, or RSS. In fact, I'm completely against the RSS ideology and way of thinking. Meanwhile I feel the CONGRESS is filled with a bunch of money hungry looters, but they are much less communal and religious obsessed when compared to the bjp/rss. I feel AAP is the "common man" who wants things done, but they don't have the experience or political capacity. They all have strengths and weaknesses. I believe in individuality, and when you support or join a political party, you lose your individual self or are forced to not think for yourself, but simply conditioned to support your party when it comes to anything and everything. Then it's no longer about the welfare of the people, but instead it turns into this game where each party is like a team, trying to prove which one is the best, by defending themselves and criticizing the others. Quite frankly, in a way, THIS SYSTEM all together is also the harsh reality of India. Constantly going in circles, and no solution. One example... These debates... "Has tolerance increased or decreased after BJP came into power?", "Wasn't there intolerance even when the congress was there?".... "How can you label the entire India intolerant"...... In all these stupid debates we've forgotten one thing.... Regardless of whether there was and still is or whether it has gone up or whether it has gone down, where is the effort of punishing forces of intolerance even if it's just 5% of India? How does the number and the comparison or the increase and all that even MATTER??? Because to them it's a battle between BJP and CONGRESS! Even if 2% of India is intolerant, something needs to be done, right? If a murder happens, will we start asking, "But murders happens during congress also!", or will the system focus on getting the guy behind bars? All these debates on the newshour and all is just a waste of time, because the debates don't focus on what they should focus on.... It's a a game of defense and blaming between different parties.
