Gay or lesbian is sexual orientation. Biologically you’re either a man or woman. Who you perform consensual sex is not the question. Gay men are men and lesbians are still women. And menstrual hygiene applies only to women. A female with reproductive organs and a monthly blood flow. Doesn’t matter you sleep with men women goats or transgenders. Are you a human species that has a uterus and has monthly bleeding? Then it will be applicable for you. LGBTQIA+ and other pronouns don’t count because this is for biological women. You either fall in womens category or you don’t. Doesn’t matter what alphabet you are😂

Their cramps are so terrible that they have to seek immediate help through injection..pills won't work and if very strong pills (have side effects) may work for them,it takes a hour to kick in system. An hour of your pelvic area feeling like you are being stabbed every second and someone is squizzing your organs. They also get very upset stomach.sometimes so bad that they have to take around 30 trips to bathroom each day. I don't get as extream as them but still i need painkiller. Periods differ from person to person, as well as cycle to cycle. I do agree in the current state of affairs, menstrual leave would definitely lead to more discrimination and resentment. But this is because of the regressive mindset of most men and women who still treat menstruation as a hush hush topic. There is no awareness on the physiology of women, though the menstrual cycle is taught in schools, it is strictly a academic exercise. In many families the men are not aware of the cycles of their mothers, sisters etc. I think not addressing this issue and just accepting that we dont need laws that accomodate womens physiology is not the stand our lawmakers should take.

I was thinking that it would be good to have 1-2 day leaves but that opens up a whole new way to discriminate against women which should be changed we can't change the way society works but maybe we should start it so that women can get equal treatment the menstrual cycle is something unique that a woman experiences and I don't think women should be discriminated against if they take a day off because of pain As a girl I experience pain on the 1st day of my cycle and it is bad I can't go out and be productive on that day but i can still manage by taking crocin or dolo so overall not a very dire situation but still i think there need to be more conversation specifically about women reproductive health in our country and seeing smriti irani do it is making me feel represented so props to her

Also for Smriti and others periods may be fun but for girls like me they are not. But why should i ask for leaves when Gov rejects the idea of acknowledging me as a female ?? When Gov is o patriarchal that they think general leave structure is ok for non males? Why should i give birth to children and take care of this organ if our patriarchal society refuses to acknowledge the pain i fce half of my life? Is this why you become Minister? But LGBTQIA+ also include Trans people, I didn’t quite understand why Smriti was only focussing on Gay men. And as a woman who has severe pain during her periods, a lot of times I find myself rolling on the floor & crying outta pain with the feeling of puking, pooping, peeing, fainting all at the same time, having period leaves would be really helpful. There have been times when my male colleagues had to escort me to hospital as I was having excruciating pain even after having pain killers. I am not sure how exactly period leaves would create more discrimination against women. I only wish that more & more people accept & normalise periods.
@ranjana240
@ranjana240 5 ай бұрын
She discussed this, sever pain would be categorised under medical leave and medical leaves are provided for. Also, discrimination is a thing. Even without men knowing we are in cycle, they judge our behaviour and say we may be PMSing. Imagine the case if they know the actual dates. Imagine the judgement that will come by when you miss periods (which is so common these days due to most women experiencing PCOS). Also, she’s right on the fact that married women/ mothers don’t experience excruciating pain. It’s the young girls. In which case it’s generally hormonal imbalance, sometimes genetics. As someone from the Talent community, I know enough corporate managers who hesitate hiring young women assuming they’ll go on maternity break and their teams will not get enough support… there’s so much of discomfort and judgement around hiring women returning from Maternity breaks, there’s judgement and prejudice on promoting women with children as the companies or men above feel that the woman will not give “enough” time to work since she has kids… it’s all too biased and discriminatory even now with all laws. This leave policy does no good. If they really want to help any women, or even trans community, it has to be in terms of providing sufficient support in terms of hygiene and security, expulsion of pink tax.

See we who are married are actually discriminated while trying to get a new job specially when we are married but still don’t have a kid… interviewers sometimes do ask how many years it’s been that u have been married just to get an idea if we might be at a stage of family planning… I’ve been rejected in on call interviews just after listening that I’m married because people does have a mentality that she’ll take more leaves, she’ll be reporting late, her attention would be divided b/w work and family… these experiences have come from interviews taken by MNCs…. Also severe PMS symptoms like abdominal pain are considered in medical leaves in most of the companies… in current scenario you just don’t have to share that it’s because of menstruation… You can’t even imagine how sometimes people get so comfortable to poke the nose in other people’s life… I remember once I was feeling nauseous at office and hence took a half day and later my colleagues were discussing that I could be pregnant…. Can’t even imagine taking “Period leave” that’ll be first approved by my TL then manager then the HR… thinking about it only makes me feel uncomfortable…. As people will then start to discriminate thinking that female employees will now take not just maternity leaves once or twice in their career but period leaves every month….

I dont know man ...being a women I really feel that nature hasn't created us an equal to men from the very beginning. Its better to accept that.. if men got periods this leave policy would already got implemented as majority of men are working in all kinds of sectors. Whenever some problem arises to the minority it was always been a debate. I wish god had created women equally or he wants to show everyone whether periods, pregnancy, pcod etc these strong women can handle every fucking problem. Nowadays the lgbtqi has become a minority so issues are being raised. We should never compare the scenario from the old times when some women who worked never raised this paid leave question bcos talking about periods openly itself was a taboo at that time. Its really stupid to compare things with 19th-20th century times. Slowly issues like sati pratha, girl child education, post partum depression, dowry were raised so in my understanding this is a valid issue In my opinion majority of the workforce has female HR so its not an issue if that women will get to know about the pwriods. Also one company doesnt have always a single HR person. A female Hr who is junior or senior in that organisation,a women should approach her for leave related things rather than a male HR. I am not being biased here I am just trying to find solutions. I just hope our whole country supports this cause and do not create a big deal out of this issue. Moreover, if a women who doesn't experience pain, IS HER CHOICE if she wants a leave or not. Don't create a barrier for other women to have leave who experience severe pain.

But the rising prices of period products are just pathetic!!! Women are already considered a burden in society! Now you can calculate how expensive being a woman is, and it a BASIC NECESSITY!!! You say beti bachao beti padhao!! Raising a girl child itself is becoming so expensive because of such high prices! How is a girl who is considered a burden for her family and is not yet capable of earning for herself will be able to buy these products?? You have no idea about the humiliation and taunts that we recieve!!! This is not even half of the problem that pink tax causes us!! She is in a constitutional position thereby question have to be answered in your known intellect capacity without getting offended. 2. If a woman says she took paid period leave, that ,means society is mature enough to understand from where she is coming from and girls dont need to succumb in embarrassment for saying she wants PERIOD LEAVE which is so natural to women, thereby going with old age shhhh..shhhh.. thing 3. Mr jha didnt said gay men.. its written LGBTQIA+ communities which includes lesbian, bisexuals, queer which includes women (one identifies with). So, what are the provisions for these people -- is it different or under the same policy crafted for women ? Question is this, simple..!

The lgbtqia+ includes Transgender who can menstruate. If we exclude lesbian bisexual etc who are biological women and hence would be covered under normal women's health laws, it is quite possible the guy who asked the question was referring to menstrual hygiene for Trans men. I think ms Irani pinholing lgbtqia as "gay men" is illogical and redundant bcz men obviously cannot menstruate!

Now this in my opinion is toxic feminism. Why are we trying to be equal to men? Biologically we are different than men. Also, each woman has a different experience with their cycles, so some actually do need period leaves! And let’s not forget the discrimination felt when a woman takes a period leave as a medical leave in the office. It’s actually held against them. (Speaking from my personal experience) . So it’s the system that needs to be changed. The system needs to be designed to cater to women’s strengths. And no this will not bring disparity, but a rather work inclusive environment.

Women need medical care rather than paid leaves, don't take me wrong, actually, if women take proper care of her health, i mean, her family has to take care of her health too so that severe pain can be managed and so can be the work.... 'To get pay, one has to work' Is there any other option ? Can women pay other when they don't work ? All we need is management, 1) Avoid heavy work.. 2) Eat proper diet 3) Take rest 4)Breathe good air Many more... Smriti Irani rightly said, Being on menstrual period is not being handicap

Did she criticized her party when their police dragged femlae wrestlers on road to defend their rowdy politician Brijbhushan? Did she raised her voice when they didn't arrested Manipur gangrape culprit for months and when modi stayed silent for months? Did she got angry at her party when UP police burnt the body of Dalit rape victim without informing her parents? Did she lost her cool when their party leader Seema Patra tortured and abused tribal woman? Nope. She wouldn't get angry at this kind of incidents. Her anger only comes out when it's not bjp ruled state. When it's bjp ruled state, she would just assure people that she's looking in that matter or she talked to the chief minister of that bjp ruled state. I wonder if she asked for a resignation of Biren singh to Modi after this much of blood bath in Manipur and inhumane attrocities committed against women.

She got even offended by the question asked by BJP's bootlicker journalist Sudhir Chaudhary. She gets so much angry for a little gesture which she thought was "Flying kiss" by Rahul Gandhi & which was not even directed towards her. But when these kind of serious incidents occurs that I just mentioned in original comment, she just says "We are looking in this matter" or "I talked to so and so chief minister". That's it. Her anger gets compromised by her politics when it happens in bjp ruled state.

Equality According to our constitution os not providing the same treatment to all. It is about providing some unfair treatments to make the field a level playing ground. Reservation for lower castes was supported by this argument and it still continues to hold true.. so why does the discriminatory practice for women is questionable. For unfair treatment in being recruited.. isn't it the government 's responsibility to saveguard our rights ? Ensure job security ? If government is so powerless than why the reservation in the private sectors..There are literally rules that mandate a minimum amount of diversity in any organisation..but for women..we shut up..for women we have such regressive people representing us...As a woman who suffers from endometriosis, I am rather scared of entering the workplace..That is what this country has given me.. First the undying devotion to Mahua , then to promote Jha without providing context of his question because in no critique it was mentioned that the question was not intended for women but for gay men who don’t have a uterus to have a mestrual cycle. And then when they picked this Clip up which is a good 7 minute video and no one has the brain cells or patience to watch the full thing , they cut the video in such a way where Jha is seen in the Clíp first instead of them cutting it so that the first few seconds address that women do have a provision for medical leave because heavy flow and severe pain beyond teen years is a medical condition. You don’t need a work from home because it contradicts a “leave” and work from home is not productive at all .
