SMSL just came out with a squeaky-brand-new product called the AO-300 (not the A300 or the AO-200), which appears to be this amp with a better headphone amp and a subwoofer output for $290. Would love to know everyone's thoughts.

I’m kind of leary about some of these budget integrated amps coming out on the market over the past 10 years or so. Especially at 250 bucks. I have the NAD 316 bee integrated amp and this thing is junk. Sorry if I piss off any NAD fans. It’s specs don’t go down to 4 ohms and it’s distorted at high volume. Get a used Technics receiver early 90s with class h technology for 20.00 it rocks my world!!!

Thank you for the audiophile health warning upfront. I almost turned off. 😂 Just for the record, my PS1 replaced my $2000.00 cd player. 😂😂. You crack me up, everytime.😂. Thanks for your review and perspectives . MQA is the defacto standard for any sound system! Such a pity sarcasm isn't translated in the written word. 1st time on the channel and immediately loved your extension cord hack. Having woven individual strands of cat 5 network cable wires together for speaker wire, I could relate. (in all honesty, they do sound rather good). Thanks for the valuable info and looking forward to future vids.

Thanks for the review Bob! I certainly considered this amp but I ended up buying the SMSL AO200 mk2 ($249.00) since it has the same amp/chip internals but with a sub out. I only use it with my turntable as the source so I really enjoy having the XLR input from my Parasound phono pre-amp.

found your video looking for the AO-300, BTW just got the SMSL DO300EX! and I'm happy. I've been looking for a DAC/AMP for a longg time... almost got the Toping DX 7 Pro back in 2019. But did not like ESS home sound. So... I've waited for AKM. I've not gotten into MQA, but appreciate having the option.

Nice to hear you reference Amused to death. I just invested in likely my final speakers, Wharfedale Elysian 4s and it was that track specifically which confirmed I had made the right choice. That drum break in the middle nearly blew me out of my socks. Great album and great track.
