I'm not sure if it's just my unit but I notice an ever-so-slight channel volume imbalance on mine using the single-ended jack vs using the balanced jack... the left channel sounds maybe 3-5% quieter. It might just be because of the potentiometers that SMSL uses as it's very similar (scratchy feeling) to their other amp products I own, as the left channel starts up first between 7:00 and 7:30 before evening out at ~8:00 o' clock. Regardless, I have joined the THX owners' club and it is GLORIOUS.

I ordered this amp last month from Apos. Their customer service is excellent. Big shout out to CJ. He guided me through my purchase via live chat. I placed the order on a Sunday night and the amp arrived at my home by Tuesday...direct from China! My only complaint is the weird side angles of the amp. They are made using a strange angle. The sides are not completely square. Instead, they are slightly slanted. I think it’s a lame design choice, but it doesn’t affect the sound quality of course. Otherwise, I have no idea why anyone would buy the Drop THX for more when this SMSL is available.

Thank you for this update. After watching this video, I was having serious buyers remorse over getting the Monoprice 887 just 2 days ago and spending $110 more to get basically the same sound quality. Also bought the 4 pin XLR connector and cable to make my own balanced cable for my HD650 to run with hotter output. Now I don't feel bad about spending a few more bucks because the 887 is superb and does not have this volume issue. Cheers.

I bought the SP200 last week and main reason was price, I was able to get it from Aliexpress for 224$, compare to Drop's 789 at 400$ it was a no brainer. Second reason is as you said it, 789 uses an external transformer, which I totally despise because they are bulky, add up and create clutter. How could 768 designers skimp on that with such a huge enclosure is beyond me.
@Skylancer7275 жыл бұрын
You also seem to be forgetting the new monoprice THX 887 which also uses the THX 888 chipset. It also is basically a carbon copy of the 789 with the same voltage, lack of digital conversions, same gain switch, etc. Though it's been out of stock for the past few days, just got back in stock.

@@RenRenification I'm no engineer. I do know negative feedback is used by masses of audio amplifier manufacturers to lower noise, in either local or global circuits. Honestly been using Aune x1s anniversary. High volume is so colored on that thing. With a Beyerdynamic 80 ohm 770 it's not that great amp. Don't buy Aune..

Wonder if one can order a monoprice with 2 power brick, one 110v and one 220v

I have an Aune X1S 10th Anniversary which I bought for 280 eur. (Slovakia) Would this be an upgrade if used with the DAC of the X1S?

Its an upgrade but whether or not its an audible upgrade would be down to your ears.

Hey, man. Enjoy your vids. I have a technical question I was wondering if you will answer for me. How many MW does a phone use via Bluetooth to power headphones? I wanna get some Beyerdynamic Lagoons. The specs say nominal spl of 91 at 1 MW and 107 spl at 40 MW. Will I only get the 91 DBs without a wired connection or DAC?

When does Zeos get the M200s to pair with it?

PLEASE tell me I'm the first to solve the IEM problem. With the Earstudio, set the output half or less and limit the DAC output, and now the volume on the SP 200 will now operate at a light gradual level. Hey teach. Grade my report! Peace.

This is going to be some interesting competition between the Drop, Monoprice versions. This guy is way cheaper! Same thing. Win!!

Hey Zeos, what would you pair with this within the 200-300$ range? I'm kinda tired of trying to figuring out what works with what while still being good

A California Red Wine and maybe M1060C with the back removed or the Theiaudio Phantoms.
