Model Railroad Shop Tour - Vintage Locomotives

It's been a while since I've visited Larkspur Line ( a model railroad shop in Merrickville Ontario) so the first day it reopened me and my train buddies decided to visit it. I had a great time touring the store and made some purchases at end of the day.

Gawd I love places like this. Me and pal were railfanning the MKT before if was absorbed into the Borg (UP) back in the 80s. We were in Pittsburg KS at the shops there (they had a beep!) and one of the shop guys had a side business model train shop in the upper floor over his garage. He drug us over there for some shopping. How fun!. If you are ever in Eastern Washington state there is a shop called PF&S supply out east of Pasco (site of huge BNSF yard) that is on a farm. The Store is some old boxcars pushed together and finished inside. Very Kewl spot. They are a distributor and a store so have quite a bit of stuff. I think it is still there!. A local friend who is a UP conductor had the store I used to go to. Nothing special just a regular store front; but I made alot of friends hanging out in that place. Now closed sadly. Enjoy that you can go to places like this. And Come on CP GP30s? They only had 2 and I seen em both!

Thats great finds the 20th gentry limited loco and coaches very awesome. plus that back entrance idea pretty slick I gotta say. Very Awesome you got to go to your local hobby shop . the shop that i went to a while ago is open only days im not off work hopefully with new job it cam change it. Love the locos you pickup read prices and go sold. I do same thing as well lol

Now that is a train store! I wish i was there. Their were a lot of items I liked the model buildings but you dashed the camera quick i had to freeze the pictures. The TYCO Freight cars looked good. Ah retro those memories. The Blue Comet HO cars wow in HO 🤔 first I've seen these. I really enjoyed watching this 🎥 video. I would like to visit there. 👋🙂

Great video! One time I was at an antique store in the USA (Oregon) where I've found several pieces of HO scale equipment and other railroad memorabilia. My two favorite HO scale finds were a four wheel red and yellow diesel switcher made in Germany, purchased for $20, had it restored to being a runner, and an SP 4449 Daylight, purchased for $25, couldn't get it running. The motor was burned, so the unit smoked until it almost caught fire. The Daylight locomotive was parted out for what useful parts I could salvage. The diesel switcher was the best find! After purchasing it for $20, and then spent $40 for it to be brought back to running condition, so all in, I spent $60 for a unit the shop owner told me would never run. The little diesel switcher is still running great, almost 10 years after I bought it and had it fixed!

That maroon and gray livery for CP is still the best particularly on the big MLW locos. Ah yes the Shay. Got one of those out at Illinois Railway Museum and love how the thing sounds like it's running 100 mph going 20 mph.

@@SMTMainline i bought exactly the same at ebay for 92 euros some days ago, and it was descibed in super condition. it came from smokers, so the colours are a bit strange in some places. light dont works. motor also not but that was connected to a shorted tender: one axle was in the wrong way. seller didnt answer so i gave him worst marks. i hope somehow your loco has some issues so you have to open and clean it ;) but not for bad i just want to learn how because its my first rivarossi...

I was watching sans audio at the beginning as you were creeping through the backyard after the turn at the headless scarecrow, I thought "well folks" that's the last we'll see of Harrison. 😯 Then, as in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the door opens to the scrumptious model train shop where everything you see is edible, oops, railable. 😁 I'm sure we all know what you purchased. Regarding the Hudson, I recently found one at my hobby shop as well and it had problems too! As the guy kept running it, the motor kept making strange noises and slowing down. I find it odd that they always seem to have problems. Thankfully I already have an unstreamlimed one so I wasn’t too disappointed, but hopefully one day I can find one!

The motor probably has a dirty commutator or everything is just poorly adjusted and not lubricated.

Okay I know this isn't a maintenance video but have a question, my Athearn SPSF F45 is shooting some serious sparks, am not great at understanding the maintenance aspect of HO scale yet but I am just curious if you have some suggestions on how to make it stop cause I've searched videos and i can't find anything that helps

It's not uncommon for old Athearn locomotives to shoot sparks since they have steel wheels. If the locomotive is running fine you should be okay, if it's having trouble moving it could be a sign of a short circuit.
