I usually go to this antique store every time I visit Merrickville. This time was pretty special since the owner brought me to a secret box of old model train stuff he had laying around and allowed me to go through it. I ended up picking up a couple items I'm pretty happy with.

My wife and I went to Merrickville last Friday and I finally checked out that antique store. Pretty cool stuff. True story. I can also recommend a good video on that exact turntable. ;)

Honestly, the turntable would be better on its own section of the layout, maybe some sort of locomotive/railcar maintenance facility? Just a thought really, but it made sense to me.

Looked like alot of good condition TYCO rolling stock, Harrison. I find good deals on train stuff at antique stores all the time. Some things are overpriced because the vendors just don't know, so you try and work out a good price. If they won't budge, be polite and walk away. The turntable does say manually operated on the box, but if you want to motorize it, more power to you. Thanks for sharing. 👍 👍 👍

Hey SMT! I actually have one of those turntables currently installed on my layout, (the newer version with the brown wood instead of black and nickel track), and if you need any help with it let me know. Make sure you get the wiring right by reading the instructions, because the polarity reverses at a certain point to ensure it doesnt short. Read the instructions before installing- it will save you trouble! Also, they do sell motorizing kits for these online, and if Im not mistaken, they are about $20, so its worth a shot. I personally have one of these and they use a rubber band drive so its nice and smooth (also a can motor: nice!). My advice is to not wire far to many tracks up, (my mistake, I wired almost every track up to it), because its time consuming to wire switches and feeders to every track. Again, if you have any questions, just tell me and Ill hopefully help!

Hello Harrison, The Atlas turntable was made with a hand crank missing on yours, Atlas did make a motor unit for it, It's a geared down motor so it operates realistic at a slow speed, Atlas made this from the 60's to 2000's so you shouldn't have any problems finding a motor unit for it Thanks

Cool stuff! I’m always going to antique shops/flea markets just to see what train stuff they might have, the thrill of the hunt is what’s exciting! Sometimes you get really lucky and find a nice bargain or something wayyyy overpriced! You just never what you will find.

I miss going to antique stores, ever since my grandpa passed i havent been to my favorite antique store in New Bern, NC. I dont even know if it is still open due to the pandemic. Not like i can trek 500 miles to see so. All the local shops are overpriced amd this one had great model train vendors. Maybe Glassboro, NJ has a great shop,i have yet to find out

SMT - Like some of the other modelers pointed out, the turntable is missing the plastic crank handle. You may be able to find an Atlas # 301 Turntable Motor Drive unit at a train show.

I found an old 1950's Lionel/Rivarossi diesel at an antique store 5 years ago. I got it to run but then lost a motor brush spring. I also think the armature is now toast as my jury-rigged spring worked initially but then stopped. Someday I'll send it off to be fixed, it's beyond me at this point.

You might want to make room on the layout for that Atlas turntable. Just saying... Oh...and you are careful, you can pull out that brass rail and replace it with nickle-silver rail. And yes, you CAN get a motor for it.

One time I went to a collectable shop with my brother while my dog was getting his haircut I was just walking around the store until I saw a vintage box and it was a ho scale compatible streetcar and trolley 2 pack and then I saw a box with old Lionel ho scale trains and one of them was worth $200 bucks and I just found out that the gang car that came with the lot was rare so I was pretty happy.

You don't know where to put that on the layout? FIND A PLACE!!! You will NOT regret it. Also...you can find motors for that puppy on Ebay...or maybe even in the "used stuff" bin in hobby shops. AND...if you're careful about it - and I have no doubts you would be - you can replace the brass rails with nickle silver.
