Snail chainsaw carving

Small snail sculpture from ash wood made mostly with a chainsaw and a fingersander.

Thanks a lot, the shape of the wood was kinda perfect for it, wouldve liked to have done a round house but the shape of the log made me do more of a sea shell :). Nice dry ash wood, this one will not crack for sure. made this for a aquintance but im defo gonna make some more, probably softer wood though. ash is great but it carves kinda rough, too much sanding for me lol.. going to a different market next month, still a carboot sale but a little further from home. need to make a bunch of quick things for that one. new customers :D. im glad you like it anyway. defo a fun one to carve, and i do think they would sell good so i hope u give it a go! Very nice, Mathieu. It's cool seeing the techniques you use to create your art. Getting into the small crevices of the carving and taking care of the finer details really makes your work stand out. Great job. 👏

Thanks a lot, it does get very intuative after a while, this one was a lot of shaving off stuff, the shape of the log was already pretty close to what i needed :) I do like that challenge a lot to find the perfect piece of wood rather then an oversized one that needs a lot of heavy cutting... was considering staining this one with pigments in the oil but a day after the sanding the woodgrain was just to nice to risk potentially downgrading it. this one is going to a friend, he wanted it for his daughter so i went a bit with a cartoonish style on this one. The dude likes it a lot so its already a win but im sure the kid will like it too :) So yeah, im gonna make more snails, i feel they will probably sell good! enjoyed making it too even though it took me a while to get back to it and actually finish it. Thanks for checking it out, I appreciate the kind words a lot

Hallo Piet :) De ogen zijn van houten kralen, steekt mooi af, ,leek me mooier dan met ogenbitje boren in dit geval, en ik denk dat dat ook mooi uit heeft gepakt :) Bedankt voor het kijken en jij ook een heel fijn weekend! Groetjes!

Hey Thanks, the electric saws are doing great, i use them a lot for the shorter carving sessions. less setup time and hassle with fuel etc. The milwaukee one seems cool, is it the m18 (FTHCHS35)? ive some reviews on that one. It looks a lot like the stihl tophandle as far as design goes. Suppose with a brand like milwaukee u will be able to use the batterys for other tools as well if u have them :). Hope you get on with it well! Hope to see it in some video some time! Hope all is well over there.
