this song is basically a first love/immature love type of experience: you love so intensely and you're so insecure about their feelings that you constantly question them about it "who's your type of girl? who's top of your world?" and wanting to so badly be with them that you're willing to compromise yourself for them, "i can be anyone. We can be anything". it's just being completely and utterly blinded by love and believing you know yourself so well that you're certain you'll never love anyone else BUT this person. it's a bittersweet song

I was fortunate enough to see Snail Mail live in Brooklyn the very night before Lush dropped, and it was one for the books. You could tell Lindsey was overwhelmed at the sheer size of the crowd before her. Over 600 were singing along to this song, and it felt like watching someone reach self-actualization before my very eyes. Like in that moment she knew she finally made it. That all of her hard work paid off. I was completely overcome by it all, the sheer emotion of the moment when the *entire* room brought home the last verse together. I got choked up, as a few tears escaped my eyes. I was front row, and she saw me, and got choked up, too. She had to take a few seconds to regain her composure, as the crowd cheered her on. She made it through in the end, but it just felt monumental being there, seeing a rock star crystallize before your eyes. The next day, the album dropped, to pretty much critical acclaim by a sweeping majority. It was such an honor to see her cross that threshold into stardom live.

The song really captures the sense of loss one experiences when you're a young adult, you've found love for the first time, but for whatever reason it just doesn't work out. I think by listening to songs like this, we better understand loss and are able to move forward in our lives towards better things. So in that respect, what a fucking beautiful song to make, 'Snail Mail.' Please continue to make amazing songs that let you and others come to terms with suffering, and create happiness. Awesome.

Pristine Untraced by the world outside you Anyways I'll never get real And you'll never change to me 'cause I'm not looking Anyways Same night Same humility for those that love you Anyways, anyways And if you do find someone better I'll still see you in everything Tomorrow and all the time And don't you like me for me? Is there any better feeling than coming clean? And I know myself and I'll never love anyone else I won't love anyone else I'll never love anyone else It just feels like The same party every weekend Doesn't it? Doesn't it? And if you do find someone better I'll still see you in everything For always, tomorrow and all the time Don't you like me for me? Is there any better feeling than coming clean? And I know myself and I'll never love anyone else I won't love anyone else I'll never love anyone else If it's not supposed to be Then I'll just let it be And out of everyone Be honest with me Who do you change for? Who's top of your world? And out of everyone Who's your type of girl? And we can be anything Even apart And out of everything It doesn't have to be this hard I could be anyone But I'm so entwined And out of everyone Who's on your mind? And no more changes I'll still love you the same

*This, but unironically* I recently realized that I may never see my first love again. I only admired him in secret, and the worst part is that only now can I see clearly that my feelings very likely weren't one-sided. As pathetic as it sounds, I'm hung up on someone I liked 10 years ago, and I'm only 20. I don't know if I could love anyone else, but I'm painfully aware that he only exists as an idea to me now, a memory that is increasingly ephemeral.

Its a bad feeling but i know what it feels like and i got the courage to ask her 5 years later if she really did have a thing for me in high school and she did she gave me a good hug and a kiss on the cheek and said she was very disappointed i never noticed but that was my fault for thinkin nobody could ever love a guy like me and when i see her at my best friends new years party every year but thats was almost 7 years ago i dont really go anywhere much i still think about her but in the end i just hope he takes care of her and makes her happy

@@angeldellobo5979 I'm sorry that things didn't work out, but good for you for not holding onto resentment and being able to wish her the best. I know it's not my place to comment, but I think it's unfair that she told you that it was your own fault for thinking that nobody could love you :/ Similar thoughts have crossed my mind, (actually, I think that's what blinded me from seeing that my feelings were reciprocated), and I know the feeling, it really sucks. But I don't think it's your fault for feeling that way. There could be a number of reasons why you were made to feel that way that have little do with you and more to do with the world around you. Nobody should have to feel like they're undesirable, so it comes across as pretty heartless to me that she would find you at fault for feeling so solitary. Like, just because she secretly had a thing for you, that doesn't automatically invalidate the insecurities you felt at the time (especially since you were in high school). Sorry, I know I don't know anything about the situation other than what you wrote, and I don't want to presume, but still, I think what she told you was kinda awful! Why was the onus on you to notice her feelings? Why not the other way around? You wrote that she was disappointed that you never noticed how she felt, but if she was aware of your feelings, she could have, I don't know, made the first move? But I guess she expected you, the guy, to because of ~ye olde gender norms~. Idk, man, kinda sounds like she was expecting you to do something that she wouldn't be willing to do herself which seems super unfair. But, again, what do I know? Despite what she said, I don't think you should hold your lack of confidence against yourself. Not that I'm really in a position to be giving advice about this topic... As long as you've made your peace with it, that's what really matters.

Your point is well taken and on the nose, but the fact that you had to use “old guy” to say it, shows that we still have a long way to go. Yours truly, old guy

There are probably 100 artists who have mined the 1980s effectively in the last 15 years. It is much rarer for anyone to mine the 1990s well. Snail Mail does it, however.

It's funny how I found this song. I jumped on the trend on Instagram where they search for their names in the ig music. I typed my name (Pristi) then this song came up and matches my personality so much, like this song is tailor-made for me. My heart is jumping right now, this song is now my main character soundtrack 💙❤💙❤💙❤
