Dwight Langston Perhaps this “to kill” is indiscriminate. In general, killing is known to cause psychologically abnormal behavior. If one kills until they have no problem with it, this is detrimental and thus criminal. I am guessing that those who hold life in high regard and take issue with killing others may be able to grasp the seventh step simply because performing the technique cannot be for anything outside of necessity. Storm shadow simply would not be able to comprehend nor use the technique simply because of his murderous mindset.

Any fool with a gun, sword, or fists can kill someone with little to no training. The other techniques he taught can be used for self-defense or to protect others, but the 7th Step can only be used for the sole purpose of killing. Killing someone with your bare hands is really hard, especially if that someone is as good a fighter as you are, if not better. The 7th Step is something akin to Hokuto Shin Ken, the Fist of the North Star: A technique that, with only seven blows, will be absolutely guaranteed to kill a man, regardless of how much bigger, stronger, or better he may be. Storm Shadow only saw the 7th Step as tremendous power, but as his teacher told him, it was a tremendous responsibility. Power without responsibility is evil.

His point was that he just wasn't teaching them techniques to kill. He was trying to teach them that the skills they learned should be used in the pursuit of a higher purpose. A why to employ those techniques, not just a how. That being trained to kill in the manner they were should be considereda grave responsibility. A lesson that storm shadow didn't understand.

Yea in his comic book origin, his first mission as a joe he saves Scarlett from a burning helicopter and in the process the helicopter exploded and the glass damaged his face (that eventually got fixed from surgery) and his vocal chords but his vocal chords couldn’t be restored that y he always wears his mask and can’t speak

I really miss the original version of Storm Shadow, when he was a nice guy who cares and supported Snake Eyes even getting him admitted in his own family against other opinion, until the pressure and criticism made him feel jealous of his gifted friend. Most versions just focus in the jealous part and forgot the love and support that made them "brothers" in first place.

I really hate how Storm Shadow is always done in a bad light, in the GI JOE comics by Larry Hama (the creator of all GI JOE) Storm Shadow isn't this evil ninja villain for the sake of being a villain. And he actually never betrays his families clan. Im glad the live action films got this right because the animated shows keep doing this wrong for some reason.

Yes....but I'm always willing to give new adaptations of characters, and stories a chance. Sometimes, by slightly changing up a story, it gives it a better "flare", a little more excitement. Have you seen G.I. Joe: Renegades? In that TV series, Storm Shadow is driven mostly by revenge because he thinks that Snake Eyes murdered their sensei. Once he learns the truth, he fights alongside Snake Eyes temporarily against an enemy force and stops hunting him.

Some interesting reading material is Miyamoto Musashi's Book of 5 rings which goes into this a bit more. Think about it. If all you are seeking is self discipline and focus wouldn't that just be a sport. And by definition if its just a sport how then could it also be a martial art?

In the original Marvel run, 1-155, the Joes set out on their first mission. An RPG strikes the adjacent helicopter & slams into the chopper Snake-Eyes is in. As the chopper goes down everyone bails out, Snake-Eye see's Scarlett unconscious in the corner and grabs her. As he gets up, the engine explodes and a blast of Ignited Jet-Plume hits Snake Eyes center face. He leaps out carrying the unconscious Scarlett. Those on the ground that witnessed this recall that Snake-Eye's head was on fire & his lower jaw was moving, but no sound came out. He wore a mask covering his disfigurement until many years later, he undertook a grueling surgery that restored what he once looked like.

@Gonaho Snake Eyes' ninja background was established as far back as issue #10, when Dr. Venom had Snake Eyes hooked up to his brain scanner to search his memories for the location of the PIT. One of Snake Eyes' memories were of his ninjutsu training in Japan, where he learned to use meditation to slow down his heartbeat and breathing to mimick the appearance of death. He then used this technique to escape. So you see, Snake Eyes' ninja backround was established from the beginning.

Thats how the original story was written. Snake Eyes has always been written as a European orphan in the far east. Snake Eyes and StormShadow are yin and yang, neither would have meaning with out the other. Snake eyes was a orphan starving on the street and a thief who was caught stealing from Storm Shadow. I don't know if his parents were killed or they left him. Either way he learned the survival of the streets before he ever learned any martial arts, he learned hardship and knowing nothing is given to you. Storm shadow liked his gal, even though he kicked snake eyes ass the first time they meet as kids. They became friends, but as they grew into young men, Storm Shadow became more concerned with methods then the why behind the methods to power. It's a rather tragic tail of friendship lost to quest for power and glory. Storm shadows uncle became the father figure to snakes eyes that he never had, until Storm Shadow killed him.

Wrong. The first canon depiction of Snake Eyes was in the first Marvel comics series written by Larry Hama, waaay before the cartoon. There Snake Eyes is revealed to be a blonde American Vietnam War veteran who befriended and was a War buddy of Storm Shadow in Nam. Storm Shadow even saved Snake Eye's life there once. After the war Snake Eyes went to Storm Shadows Ninja school and became a ninja like him.

Well, I don't know why Chu didn't have Scarlett in the movie because Snake Eyes loses a lot without having her around. Hama had them inseparable in the comics. I also don't know why they always have Snake Eyes' mask on if he isn't scarred in the movies. Even in the comics he took his mask off and just wore sunglasses(his scars were later surgically repaired). I don't really care for Duke as he had little storyline in the comics, but Flint really should've been in charge, not Roadblock.

@Gonaho No, not quite 50-60 issues. You forget the "silent issue," #21 'Silent Interlude.' Issue #21 featured the first appearance of Storm Shadow and the red ninjas, as Snake Eyes parachutes into Destro's castle to rescue Scarlett. As Snake Eyes and Scarlett fly away from the caslte, you can clearly see the Arashikage tattoo on Snake Eyes' forearm through the torn fibers of his sleeve, and one on Storm Shadow's forearm as well. In the original snake eyes was an adult when he joined the Arashikage clan, the only thing that this and the original share was Zartan killing the hard master, and it should be noted that the bullet that killed the hard master was meant for Snake Eyes himself and it was Cobra Commander who ordered the hit not Storm Shadow.

Lightman 2120 shot in the throat which is probably why he doesn't talk. The master didn't directly say that Snake Eyes knows the move but he practically said that he was going to teach him it before Storm Shadow.
