"Most dictators and would-be Napoleon types are hampered by the need to pretend that they are pursuing a noble and just cause. Cobra Commander doesn't have that problem. Well I think that's because most people believe there was a single Cobra Commander, when in fact there were multiple people who assumed the post and it's obvious that this ain't the original snake 🐍 commander but in fact a psychopath pretending to be him, but he still needs to be recognized as him to have the legitimacy in the command structure, Gi joe probably know this as well, but most average Cobra commando members might be unaware of the original true purpose of the Cobra organization and the original identity of the true Cobra commandor.

The cartoon slot format really didn't do justice to Cobra Commander. For cartoons of the time, he had to lose, _every time,_ in 18 minutes or less or risk losing the audience. I don't really understand why the bad guys could never once score a victory outside of a two- or three-part episode, but that's the way producer thinking was in the 60's-90's - and f***ing hell could Cobra Commander have been _delicious_ as a villain had things been different..

In a way, the previous CC was less evil because he was actually able to enjoy the good things in life. He was more of a hedonist, which, in a way, made him less dangerous to the world. It went from muscle car to the automotive equivalent of mom jeans. As for beer, they sold the same beer then that they do now. Budwiser then is the same as Bud now. Or Rolling Rock or PBR or whatever you drink. We tend to focus on the bad stuff of today and focus on the things we liked from back in the day while forgetting the bad stuff. We remember GN'R and Metallica and forget Wham! and New Kids on the Block. But yes, this Cobra Commander is by far the best we've seen on any screen. The only time they did him better was in the Larry Hamma Marvel comics from the 80's. They did a great job with him in the comics up till about issue 50.

@videogamester07 IMO, not kiling him off was a good move. 1) it doesn't upset the fans 2) it means that Cobra Commander is now the sole active Cobra leader (since destro, baroness etc are captured and the rest dead) - It would have been great if there was a post-credits scene where CC is shown alive and well and its revealed that he planned this all along. 3) It just goes to show how badass he really is if he can survive such an explosion at ground zero!
