Please.. After the cut at 2:00, the robot keeps running till 3:30 at 4x fast forward. And runs at the rest of the video till 4:25 at 2x fast forward. Which means, battery life would be at least 8 minutes with the data presented in this video.

How would this perform on an uneven surface? I suspect certain 'uncoupling' moves would mean it wouldn't be able to join back together. Excellent mechanism though!! Is it performing a pre-programmed routine?

Yep, modular robotics. A robot that can reassemble itself to accomplish different tasks. they can also split into pieces and have the pieces work as individual robots/snakes.
