The reason the snake got as far as it did is because frogs will literally sit there being eaten alive until the last minute once the snake has em part of the way down the frog decides it wants to live... Almost everytime

Good question. I've pulled a live toad out of a water moc's mouth, (wasn't really thinking was I ). The toad appeared to have 2 puncture wounds which I assumed were dry bites but still a massive puncture nonetheless. The toad lived. To go back to your question about toxicity. I'm guessing that both animals may have a similar tolerance to each other's toxins.

I researched this after seeing a smaller garter hanging onto a frog I was certain it couldn't swallow. It had the frog by a back leg and I couldn't understand what the snake was trying to do. They can swallow much bigger prey than could be imagined. The ones I saw were on the John Day River in Oregon.
