We just had Leandro in for a seminar and he taught this pass, and I gotta say this is pretty spot on! Also it's helpful that you break down some of the details that don't come across as well through translation. Side note- Leandro was awesome! As a 5 time world champion coming to a small gym in Syracuse, he was super engaged with everyone, and showed us his BEST techiniques! His DLR/Spider hybrid to SLX as well as the infamous Leandro knee slide. My favorite was the pass where he just basically flops his weight down on the DLR sliding his nearside leg over the DLR hook, catching the knee with his instep. That was a revelation for someone with a big guy game like me! Cheers!

Me: Slide the knee through - Got it. Also me: (10 minutes later) I need to study this for a month.

Hahaha yeah jiu jitsu is always evolving so I always revisit topics and evolve them again, so you will be studying for years, but that’s what makes it fun.

As a young black belt learned not to speak in absolutes and since then I learned there are many ways to pass well and many ways to control the sidemount…

I was able to hit the pass first training after watching this video all thanks to that fixed hand placement. Kept getting stuck against good DLR players who had the pants grip. Shot right through them with that, thank you!

Hi Jon! When you do this pass, does the outside leg float in the air while you knee cut?
@maksymkharkavyi35632 жыл бұрын
awesome. btw, Andrew Wiltse credited you on his knee slide pass. it must be this very system
@JonThomasBJJ2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I would like to talk with him about the evolution on it at some point, I know mine has changed a lot since I showed it to him, and I’m sure his has as well. Would be great to do a discussion together about it.

Hey Jon thanks for the video but what happens when you cant get the underhook?
@JonThomasBJJ3 жыл бұрын
In this case you can pretty much always get it, but otherwise I could go leg drag or reverse leg drag, could also try same pass with a cross collar grip

Are there any complications if he has a grip on your left sleeve?

For a slower pressure based kneecut, what do you when the person on bottom gets the single leg lapel grip?
@JonThomasBJJ3 жыл бұрын
It’s a different pass sequence, did you watch my last video on passing the Coyote guard? Check that one out a lot of the details in that will help. Also watch my video on the face crank.

How do you decide it’s time to move from studying one position to the next?
@JonThomasBJJ3 жыл бұрын
It’s based off a few things, one big one is interest I try to keep jiu jitsu exciting so if I get bored with a topic I often change, or if I feel I have made a lot of progress after a week or two I might pick a new topic then come back to the other one eventually.

@samhangster3 жыл бұрын
Those rlly are only high percentage from closed guard. From half guard if you just continue thr knee cut the person will be more concerned with getting Passed than trying to finish. You can continue the knee cut even if they have it because they have to extend to finish, which you won’t allow them to do with the underhook
@JonThomasBJJ3 жыл бұрын
Not really when your knee clears the hip line and you are deep on the cut it will be really hard for them to go for it.
