Snap On is losing the competition. Little by little their going to be out of the market. If they want to stay in the business they have to compete in pricing.

I have been a Tech for 20 plus years and i have always lived by the rule. Buy the cheapest ok quality tool you can get. If you use it enough to wear it out or break it then buy the best quality tool you can afford to replace it. No need to send thousands on tools you use once every 6months or 2 years.

The vim impact50 set is my go to. I truthfully thought vim was the one to come out with them first.

I agree they’re getting out of hand with some things and tools that were great have been discontinued so if you have to warranty you’re screwed especially when a new design is worse.

I'd rather pay $200 for a quality Made in USA tool over the $40 chinesium POS. And I'm not even an auto tech, I'm an IT guy. I just work on cars (friends and family) on the weekends.

A 17mm hex key cut to length and a 17mm socket shortened on the "poor man's lathe" (bench grinder) and you have a stubby plug socket. I usually engrave "Snap-Off" on my home made tools.

True. Its a shame we have to get older to get wiser. I’ve never seen a snap on sale like Sears used to have. My number one favorite tool the graphing meter was way ahead of its time. Totally unsupported now. I’ve fixed it several times. Next failure and it’s done ☹️

In terms of stubby quality low profile socketry, I'm Koken Z series all day. If I want innovational one offs and/or stubby bits (any type), I'm thinkin VIM👍

I’ve had Snap On tools for for 36 + years, and never had to grind one to make it fit. I don’t use my Snap On puller every day, but when I need it, I need it. Never had much luck with brand x.

Had to grind down a snap on 33mm impact socket. A tekton one fit perfectly with a lifetime warranty. $80 socket vs $11 socket wasn’t a hard decision

At one point in time you had to go to the tool trucks for the specialty tools, but not anymore. If harbor freight doesn't have it then the auto parts store or the internet will. For a lot less money

Have you seen the project farm and don't tests on their tools. They're not even mids. They're low tier. The metal isn't special. It's worse.

You missed the point and top tier quality when they all break and I live my Snapon pliers, torque digital wrench and ratchets but fact of the matter is that Koken is much higher on the HRC steel than Snapon and a lot less and even they will break eventually with a warranty 🤔. I know some don’t like to hear it but when it’s hard for some when they become a tool snob and thus why I have a wide range variety.

Hey! Long time! Bought the AGA Tools magnetic fill plug set for around 100 bucks like five years ago, now they’re 169. Worth every penny! They have a thumb wheel and they’re magnetic. Super low profile, you can use a 13mm zero offset wrench that it magnetizes to. For 17mm, I cut off a long Snap On 17mm Allen socket decades ago, couldn’t imagine how much that one socket costs now! lol

Snap-on has been screwing their franchisee's for several decades. They started screwing their customers about a decade ago. I'm looking forward to the day they realize they've been screwing themselves the entire time. Snap-on hasn't seen any of my money for a very long time. Premium tools at a premium price is understandable. Cheaply made tools at a premium price is a rip-off.

So the moral if the story is Snap On comes out with the idea, then wait for a chinese based company to copy cat their idea and make a crappier cheaper version of it. Then say snap on isn't innovative... I get that their prices are getting out of hand but need to give credit where credit is due. I mean harbor freight wouldn't have anything to sell unless snap on made something for them to copy 🤷

I came to this realization about 9 years ago. Now I do have alot of snap on, mac, matco and cornwell. But, I now have alot of tekton, capri, gear wrench, astro, and vim

No one innovates anymore, most tools now are created by the tech team at the vehicles creation, then patented and licensed to the tool companies to produce. Snap-on is a rip off anyway. Too expensive and virtually no warranty anymore. Harbor Freight has a better warranty.

Thanks for the rant it makes perfect sense why pay more for on tool when you could use that money to purchase several tools that you use on the daily 200 dollars for a once apon a time tool is crazy and when it comes to snap on tools alot of their specialty tools isn't even made by them for example lisle tool company makes stuff for them right there in Clarinda Iowa 14 miles from where i live thanks for sharing you thoughts hopefully it saves people money

Just because someone copies something doesn't mean they are not innovating, and it is always cheaper to copy a good idea. Is Snap on over priced, oh hell yes it is. All you need to do is ask is am I doing a job enough that the cost/reduction in frustration is worth it, till someone copies it.

Snap on is very innovative I have seen a few new plier designs over the past few years but there sockets are getting overwhelming expensive and replacing with German stahlwille or HAZET

Had a buddy social media buy and show off a huge monster Snap On box. Worth more than most peoples truck. And within 3 months of that he was divorced. Not a smart buy.

Snap on is definitely more sales oriented than service. Had a twin beam torque wrench that would read 20 % low and keept snapping studs. Snappy said injeed a tech angle and not have to tq wrench warrantied.

for the hex try these: Mayhew Tools 16005 its both 3/8 drive and hex on the outside so you can use a wrench if you need it to be super low profile.
