In this Snap On tool box tour, the third drawer of seven is under discussion. It contains Knipex Plier Wrench pliers, Cobra Pliers, Snap On and Crescent adjustable wrenches, on large Craftsman, more Klein Lineman pliers and wire strippers, snap ring pliers, Vice-Grips and one Snap On locking plier, SAE nut drivers, and of course, Channellock pliers, large medium and tiny.

The adjustable spanners branded snap on are made by Bahco. That is why they are made in spain. I believe bahco is swedish, so maybe why the bigger ones are made there, or were at least. The snap on PWZ are also bahco and are still even stamped bahco too!

I've got a large pair of Bahco Knipex-like pliers that are great. Nice handles. A thumb release. Good stuff.

To double up, on Four Rings info, Snap-On bought a Spanish tool company around the same time they bought Bahco and most of the Swedish production has moved to Spain and Argentina over the years. Most (if not all) of Lindstroms pliers got moved over their after purchase. The products Bahco inherited from purchasing Sandvik’s saw/tool division are still mostly from a Swedish factory. The Bahco/Snap-On wrenches are also sold as Irimo. Irega (not to be confused with Irimo) is the Spanish company that does the wrenches for Channellock and others around the world. I believe there is a third Spanish producer of adjustable wrenches, but I’m at a loss of what their name is (or maybe I’m completely mistaken). Western Forge is gone and Klein stopped making their own, so all good adjustable will be of Spanish or Japanese origin, indefinitely.

Great videos (and great watch,too)! I know you’ve got another video out there of some of the small knipex but it’d be cool to see a combined video of ALL your smaller tools (sub 5.5”). I collect smaller tools like that. I like the 5” Knipex Cobra for an EDC, but in my shop apron I carry the 6”, I feel like you get better purchase, but still maintain that compact size.

Same here, got the 5s first and thought they were nice but got the knipex pouch set with the 145 needle nose combination pliers and the 6 inch cobras and wow the 6s are the way to go, I carry them to work now and leave the 5s for the weekend

I believe those pistol grip pliers are one of several of Irwin's rebranded NWS pliers. German Tool Reviews inspected the rebranded linesman pliers and was not particularly impressed.

I was wondering when you'd do a toolbox tour, and apparently it already happened. I have wrenches up to 36". One of the 24" rail wrenches opens to ~14". Parallel jaws. No, they're not used very often, but I like having them.

Neat video. Do you buy your Snap On tools from a tool truck or order them from Snap On over the internet?
@lastbesttool

Until about June, I was 100% tool truck. But since then its 100% online. i miss the tool truck in being able to choose my own tool when there is a selection, but the cramped truck and unknown number of additional people on board, especially with divergent views on how serious to take the pandemic, I hopped off the truck for the time being. Got another Snap On order in route. Stay tuned for that fun unboxing.

Knipex makes a tongue and groove pliers, have you used those? I got them for my small tool collection but they don’t seem too useful, probably a design best left to Channel Locks

is there anything that knipex makes where snap on is competitive.
@lastbesttool
@lastbesttool 3 жыл бұрын
That's a great question. What makes it hard to answer is so much of the SO side (sockets, ratchets, wrenches, etc.) is not in Knipex's lineup. And where there is rough equivalence, the Knipex has a unique take on it like the Twingrips, Plierwrench, or Cobras. A quick guess might be screwdrivers and flush cutters. Possibly side cutters and lineman's.

I recommend the newest version of Gedore 175 series of Swedish style pliers wrenches. They’re mostly grey/black which is the most noticeable distinction over the older classic all blue. Much lighter than the generic Dako design. That said, Bahco/PWZ is a lot easier to come across (and cheaper stateside). The Knipex versions are usually the cheapest but they are definitely the generic design (discounting their weird newer pipewrench cobra hybrid).

Those pliers have never seen 10 seconds of work 😳!

I keep them clean. And when you distribute the workload over a dozen different tools, the wear and tear takes much longer. Plus the beater tools are in the garage. Sometimes I use the old tools just to keep the better condition ones in better condition.
