Personally I really dislike that across society now its become accepted to imitate someone's work pretty much 100% and then undercut them. I love to see affordable tools and welcome innovation, but copying someone else's design to the letter is not a practice I can support. Just a personal choice of course.

Warranty is better with Icon because there is a HF on every corner. Tracking down a Snap On truck for a home owner that did not buy from the driver can be difficult sometimes the driver reluctant. So, Icon for the win, cheaper, similar quality and easier when/if a problem arises.

I love my icon flush cutters and alot cheaper than the snap on version. And I can stop at harbor freight and warranty them out. Snap on you have to wait for the truck to come around and hope he shows up that week. I had to warranty out my snap on ratchet and I waited for 3 weeks for the snap on tool truck to come around.

They’re delivering snap on quality (very close at least) for the price of cheap beater tools. Would I prefer USA made? Sure, but I also prefer to drive to a store and pick up what I need when I need it. If Snap On had stores every couple miles like Harbor Freight does, I’d be filing for bankruptcy. In the meantime I’m just as satisfied with my icon tools as I’ve been with Snap On.

Once HF sells as many of these as they can, they will release them with green handles. Then 6 other colors. Then pink.

I like how the Icon is easier to open in one direction (outwards). Makes it easy for fingers and since its harder in the other direction you can squeeze it in your hand which isnt hard at all. Snap on seems backwards if these are designed like that.

Also, the pliers prices have been all over the place! I’m certain I paid 17.99 a while ago, and I noticed a lot of them had gone down a few bucks here and there. A few models were usually just over $20 which is a very common 20-30% discount cut off (always wait for coupons unless you need the tool there’s usually at least a 20% every month, and occasionally they do 20-30% off anything/ no restrictions a few times since before Christmas that have occasionally popped up this year as well)

Alot of people don't like copycats I get that but if snap on was reasonable with their pricing there wouldn't be any copycats I agree why pay more for a tool that performs very close to its competitors it would be great if icon had American made tools like tekton does the price would go up a little but not like snap on thanks for sharing my friend

Snap-on makes really good tools but honestly good for Harbor Freight with the icon cuz snap-ons been ripping people off from many years competition is good for everyone It drives the prices down for the customers and increases innovation

I like the icons I got cause a mistake.. it got an extra amount of dip on one side.. I know they’d replace, but they are comfortable… it’s only on one half so idk how they pulled it off but I’m not complaining. It’s not really a tool that needs the extra cushion, but why not enjoy it?

Blatant copycat down to the visuals is not something that should be supported. They could have made a set of flush cuts with their own twist, or styled them a bit different. But they chose to imitate their most famous competitor down to the way they look. I would sooner buy any other brand, and that applies to most Icon tools. There are lot's of pliers made by ethical companies for similar money to Icon, (Klein, Channellock, Wilde, to name a few).

I bet most of us would prefer to buy Snap-On and support and own American made. The problem is, only a very small fraction of a percent of Snap-On's actual demographic have access to a truck. Then they want to charge $25 to ship a pair of already VERY expensive (and honestly, overpriced) pliers, when literally nearly every other company is offering free shipping, or shipping for what it actually costs them (less than $10, come one Snap-on!). That $60 tool is now $90 after taxes and shipping. Get real. I can buy 4 of the Icons, break one, give two away, and still have one left, and they all still have the same lifetime warranty. Sorry, but I have to go with Icon. If Snap-On offered free shipping? Honestly, I'd probably buy Snap-on. But I'm not paying half the price of the tool over again just to ship it. I'm also not spending $250 every time I want one or two tools just to get free shipping.

IMHO, Snap-On has become too much of a pita... not only asinine expensive, but no one has even seen one of their trucks around in eons. For the record, I've been using a pair of Knipex (74 01 200) cutters for ages that still work great... but will probably look into HF's offerings if/when new are needed. Snap-On does still make some stuff worth the trouble & irritation... the LN47ACF long nose slip joints for example.

Harbor Freight needs to correct the wording on their packaging. It should read: "Design COPIED in the USA. Made in Taiwan." Harbor Freight's ICON sales slogan should be "The Duplicator. Not Innovator." The ICON pliers look as if the "designer" laid a Snap-on plier on a piece of blank paper and traced around it and then made a wax mold. I'm not a Harbor Freight hater, but, Harbor Freight should have taken steps to come up with their own design.

Tell Snap On that. They didn't create diagonal cutting pliers nor did they create their $900 floor jack that is the same as the $250 HF jack. They didn't create anything.
@deltahawk1001

@@svn5994 Two diagonal cutters look like this. One of them is brand new, and one has existed for years. You are making a dishonest argument to say "they didn't create diagonal cutters". There are lot's of diagonal cutter styles and designs. They chose their most famous competitor and copied them as close as they possibly could. That is not a thing conscientious consumers should support. If you don't want to spend Snap-On money their are plenty of high quality pliers made by more ethical companies.

What’s innovative or original in the snap on version? They didn’t create the 7” diagonal cutter. They copied from someone else as well. Nearly every diagonal cutter (of similar size) is about the same. Durability…maybe not so much
