Thanks for posting this; really fun to watch. Just fyi, you can play lands from Shelldock. "Play the card" rules text allows for lands to be played, whereas "Cast the spell" text would not. A gotcha though is you can't play lands on your opponent's turn even with Shelldock.
@SnapBoltАй бұрын
@@owenjam I usually know that rule, but there’s a few things that kept me from believing that you can play land with shelldock. One, I thought that if it said play a card ‘without paying its cost’, it wouldn’t allow you to play land. Two, I could’ve sworn that I tried to play a land from shelldock, and was not able to. I did a little research, to try and figure out if you can play a land. Inconclusive, but I did see a post that said magic online is/was bugged and doesn’t allow you to play it. Some posts said you can, some said you can’t. I think if it worked properly, you should be able to play a land. Can anyone confirm?

M2G3: I think you probably could just play and crack expedition map here, putting academy into play turn 1 and having a bazillion mana moving forward. You end up discarding the plains in order to do that (putting mox diamond into play) but that feels worth it to untap with academy and a bunch of artifacts in play. Your line ended up working out because you had mox diamond to discard to currency converter, although to be fair, just about any line would work that game as you drew straight fire from turn 1 on.
@SnapBoltАй бұрын

Great run ! That was close. I think you should have palace jailered then if you find a land you can parallax wave and eventually blink the jailer with wave and use it again and keep the card advantage going with monarch but it was a tough decision not clear if it would have worked out better. Hey! Thanks for the video. @1:17:52, I think it’s slightly better to go Mox Diamond pitch Plains, Mox Ruby, Mox Opal, cast Expedition Map and activate it to get Academy, play it and cast Mana Vault. I'll preface by saying I played five feeder leagues and only went 0-1, 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, and something else I don't remember, with having played this vintage cube only one or two times... but the way you played this first non-league draft, you seemed to have no rhyme or reason on how to beat the table. The opening pack had so many big mana cards. It just spoke to going aggro as being the better move. Kumano was certainly a boring pick but it sends a huge signal to the next three or four players that white/red is not open. If you go big mana, then you'll inevitably end up against another big mana deck and be 50/50 to win, with both decks being subpar. And taking Ajani and Esper Sentinel after Urza... you're nuking your first pick. And passing Kappa Cannoneer (can't believe it tabled), that's a card someone will pick pack one to build around and steal all the artifacts you want, Mox Opal is not, so just pass it. Cannoneer is the game winner you want. Edit: well you won the first draft so what do I know.
@SnapBoltАй бұрын
@@californiaplant-basedeater2761 I took a shot at artifacts being open, gave myself some wiggle room to move into another deck, especially with the mother of runes picks, and got incredibly rewarded with this archetype being very open. I think I drafted well and ended with all the cards I wanted. That first deck was the best deck I’ve had in any of these events Sounds like you are overthinking your picks based on the context of the pack and what you are passing
@californiaplant-basedeater2761Ай бұрын
@@SnapBolt Hello. Both decks looked good, sure. The second one looked fine from a pick perspective. I might have been overthinking for the first one, true, I just don't know. For the second one I thought to pick fetch land, noble, fetch land, then ended up white green like you anyway. Library... idk. There's a lot of card draw all around, a lot of draw sevens, balance, upheaval... so I think for me I'd rather start cutting a specific strategy. I haven't finished watching yet. If you get to the final qualifier, I think it will be extremely competitive. I would not expect cards like Cannoneer to be tabling, but you take the best cards yourself so you'll probably be on the same page as everyone else, more or less. All I can say is that maybe exercise a little more caution. I was bummed the feeder league ended on Saturday, it surprised me not being up on Sunday and I wished I had played another one or started in the earlier weeks.
@SnapBoltАй бұрын
@@californiaplant-basedeater2761 for sure. I wish I had more time to play in them too. Yeah, second draft I could have gone a different direction, especially if I didn’t take palace jailer or if I took Prime Time. It’s basically impossible to determine how things would have played out though
@californiaplant-basedeater2761Ай бұрын
Hey again. I had skipped past most of the second drafting, past packs two and three, to see how it all ended, then went back and finished it. So I thought to go: Verdant (Keeps open Depths, B/G self mill, g/w, g/r, Nadu, all well positioned against the rest of the pack) Noble Windswept Ajani Mother Portable Huatli (for potential splash) Rabbit Stomping (looking for bombardiers, gut, scarlet) Windswept Vengevine Virtue of Loyalty? W/G surveil Basking Brawler Huatli Copter (fliers is a viable avenue sometimes) Unexpectedly over Parallax (just looking to minimize four drops, creates mulligan equity but not sure... I know PW is great, can wheel Qasali, white did seem very open, maybe Wave comes back and a white blue player might prefer unexpectedly) Spellbinder Nadu Hallowed Flickerwisp Aven (WW is worrying though) Cathar Outland (Just a hate bear, token, flier deck at this point) Cobra Savai R. (This is sideboard, imo, maindeck priority is delivering damage and preventing combo creatures if possible) (Hallowed or whatever came back) Mana Tithe, probably maindeck Darkstar W/U/G triome Apparition over Mox (I pass off color moxes when green) Fire bolt hate draft Council's Thraben Selfless (flier, hate bear) Bloodbraid Challenger Leyline Taiga Foundation Breaker Voice (Main deck) Ephemerate (main deck) Beza (possibly main deck) G/R surveil The deck is a little light, but maybe after taking Verdant and Noble and Stomping pack one, an interesting card comes pack two, like a gut or bombardiers or headliner scarlet or something. Hating the fireblast was probably a good call. The leyline might be great in the four color deck at least, though. Didn't get a path or swords or oust or winds. Without having one of those first that's why I like the Unexpectedly absent. Ok that's it. Take care
@SnapBoltАй бұрын
@@californiaplant-basedeater2761 but the packs would change based on what cards you take because other players would have to take different cards. So it’s basically impossible to go back and repick. Regardless, I wasn’t happy with my second deck. White wasn’t as open as I thought or we didn’t really get enough of the good cheap cards to have a streamlined deck. Deck was mid, but was going to be tough to 3-0 Tough seat
