This is exactly the reason Roman’s opinion sound so genuine and trustworthy. If he would have been labeled as Fujifilm ambassador, that alone would drive people away (no matter whether Roman would stay honest or not) for obvious reason Brand ambassadors are probably the least trustworthy source to spend one’s time for I love Roman’s videos, how he keeps them simple, genuine and straightforward, unlike many other KZbiners in the field of photography

The 35 f2 has been glued to my x-t3 for over a year and I absolutely love it, I recently got the 33 f1.4 and I've really enjoyed the phots and haven't touched the f2. I was thinking of keeping the f2 for a compact option if I ever get a smaller body but honestly feeling like it will stay on the shelf.

The 35mm f/2 is such a good lens. Technically it's just another basically 50mm FF equivalent, but when you use it, it definitely has some interesting character to it.

Hi, I have a question as a XT3 user as well. Do you use your XT3 combined with these 33mm and 35mm lenses to shoot video? If yes, do you personnaly see any stabilization issues thru the lack of Ibis on the XT3?
@Kuzumby

@@trezegol2007 I don't use them for video and honestly with no IBS or OIS It's going to be shaky, a gimbal or tripod is your only hope. I would highly recommend one of the zoom lenses that have OIS if your doing video with the X-T3

Just bought the 35mm f2 lens as my first lens outside the 18-55mm kit lens on the XT5 and the shots so far have been so great. The price of the 35mm f2 lens just keeps the funds in check incase I eventually want to grab the 33mm in the future

Thanks for the video. As usual you do a good job in not making us drown in a sea of specs and presets, I think in some ways the specs (i.e. of the 33 f1.4 an 35 f2) speak for themselves. What you correctly leave us with is the fact it's up to ourselves to figure out which one is better suited, I love the specs of the 33mm and the pics you took especially at night.It's obvious one can't take the same pics handheld with the 35mm. For me though the weight,and budget,are key elements so the 35mm would be my choice. By the way, you got to love that gentleman's smile at 11:28! He noticed you taking a pic but he trusted you he'd look good on it!👍😉

I’ve been transitioning towards the f1.4 primes for the look they have not necessarily the bokeh or low light. They definitely add a layer of character to your photos that take the digital edge off your photo. These new primes manage to have that same character but maintain a lot of contrast and sharpness. Very good on Fuji for making a lens more optically perfect without making it too clinical and boring.

I agree. I have the 35mm f2 and it's great for its size and weight, combined with the focal length it's great for family portraits and candids. But I never liked the color of the f2 that much, it's too flat and boring. The 16mm f1,4 on the other hand, is marvelous at color. I never thought I could like a lens just for something so small sounding as different colors. But I notice the nice contrast and punchy colors right away when I use the 16mm and it's why I use it so much for my photography. I am renting the 33mm f1,4 right now and it's also unique in it's color, yet I have to find a way to use it to my benefit. The color seems a lot cooler than on the 16mm f1,4 and 90mm f2.

@@BTMovieSecondChannel the 16mm is my favorite and best lens so far, also use it for astro photography. I have the kit 18-55 that I never use and want to trade it for this or the 35mm f1.4. I would like to get into more portrait and street photography. The other lens I was teetering on, and on my radar is the 56mm for portraits.. but not sure how much I will be able to get into and maybe in a situation where I will favor some background in my portraits. My other lens is the 70-300 for wildlife :)

I just got this lens yesterday and shot with both it and my 35 f2. General scenes outdoors, low light indoors, and my 5-year-old son (challenging: I regret not taking that wildlife photography course). Other than the very slightly wider fov, the images are almost indistinguishable as far as sharpness and exactly the same with respect to color rendition. The 33 images are very, very slightly brighter, and there is also a slight improvement in autofocus acquisition, especially eye autofocus. It is certainly not "absolutely way better and no comparison with the f2" as you found. Maybe I got a poor 33 copy? I'm still within the window period of returning the lens.

Thats interesting. I found the 33 sharper then both F2 and 35 versions. Yeah its not heaps sharper but enough to justify for what I do Weddings and portraits. Also I found the eye/Face AF amazing and it didn’t miss a shot even wide open. Is it worth the money??? Personally I think its about 15-20% too expensive but if your already in the Fuji eco system and u want to provide the best IQ to yourself and customers then u will buy it. But maybe u should get urs checked out, Fuji normally have a good service record at the very least they can check if the optics are calibrated.

I totally agree with you that there is something going on about that lens you can’t really put into words. Could the word be that it is very glassy? It’s like every picture is shot through a thick, clear window. And for me, I don’t like it. Im so glad you like it tho! The image that comes out of it is visually pleasing, however for me it’s too stylistic and lacks some natural tones to it. That’s me! It is however interesting and makes you wonder how they made the lens and with what intention. Thanks for such a casual, honest and good review!

I was originally going to sell the 18-55mm kit lens for the 16-55mm lens but I personally think it just seems a bit too big and heavy. I find myself shooting at 35mm most of the time, very rarely ever going to 18mm and this lens isn’t much of a change in size & weight. I will have to think it over for longer because going from a zoom to fixed is scary lol

I've been looking at this lens for my XPro3 and XH-1. Your comments about this lens and the 50-140mm, which I own, gives me pause about buying it. I'm not a pro, and of course the 50-140 is huge by comparison. But if the image quality is close I'm wondering if I should just live with the 50-140. Note I do own the 35mm f2, so if I need to go light I can. Ha, maybe sell the 35mm f2 to subsidize the 33mm f1.4. ;)

Hey bud. I shoot an XT1 as well on a 35mm F2 for the past I'd say 3-4 years and I've went everywhere in the world with it and honestly if you've never shot on a prime it would be so much different. I also primarily shoot photos. Also depends on your current set up. I started from the 18-55mm kit and was so used to 18mm and then zooming for close ups, but changing to a 35mm prime changed my entire style of shooting, learning to zoom with my feet. Price wise it would be so much different between the 2 ( thousands for the 33mm F1.4 WR and hundreds for the 35mm F2) for just a few stops of light and also bear in mind the size and the weight difference. The 35mm F2 is seriously so small and compact. The 33mm F1.4 wr is almost like the 18-55mm, albeit smaller. Lastly, I would implore you to also check out the 23mm focal length (35mm FF equivalent) if you've never used a prime and see if you like it better than the 35mm or 33mm (50mm FF equivalent). Everyone's upgrading from a XT-3 or and X-Pro 3 but here we are in 2022, still shooting with our XT-1s.

@@klmasi Hey thanks for taking the time to put that out there. Since my post I hired the new ish 33 1.4 and was pretty well blown away by how sharp it seemed and how quick and accurate the auto focus was compared to my 18 to 55. The 35 I haven't had a chance to try but it's so compact and all the reviews are awesome. Then comes the rub as the 1.4 kisses goodbye to a lot more cash when times are tight. Based on what you have recommended I might hire the 23 for some fun. You can get pretty reasonable deals as one company gives you a day rate for a whole weekend. At Xmas they shut down so I have had 4 weeks for the price of one in the past. It will be new year for me if I buy now. Might sell the 18 to 55 to help fund. Thanks again. Have a good one 👍

@@ianbridges7929 Love hearing that mate! 4 weeks as well for price of 1 day, what a bargain that was. Also I haven't tried the 33mm but I'll take your words for it, but for me an amateur to spend thousands on gear, without actually earning from it, I can't justify it. The 35mm I bought used as well for £400 many years ago, my guess is that it would be cheaper now. I would recommend you to keep the 18-55mm, that lens is amazing for what it is. The lens only get cheaper with time but you don't want to get stuck without a wide angle ish lens when it calls for it! Also I completely understand the financial situation for us right now. Based on what I read you sound English, and I know all too well the energy situation now in the UK. Food on the table first then everything else. All the best Ian, and God bless 🙌

I just got the Fuji XT3 and the new 33mm F1.4 Fuji lens. When I am on Aperture priority mode I can see and hear the aperture blades constantly opening and closing. The lens makes a pretty distinct clicking noise constantly. However on the Fuji X100V the aperture blades are completely silent when opening and closing. Is there something wrong with the 33mm lens? Why is the 33mm making that clicking noise but the X100V is silent?

Some great images there, regardless of the lens. :) I just got my 33mm a week or 2 ago, and so far I'm loving it. I'll probably keep my 35mmF2 though just for when I want to go as light/compact as possible.

Hi Roman! Should I buy 50-140mm f2.8 or 33mm f1.4. I own a XT-200, should I buy the 33mm f1.4 and save money for a new camera, or should I buy the 50-140mm f2.8?

Thanks for the review! You really got some nice shots here. I'm thinking about selling my 35mm f/2 and 35mm f/1.4 lenses to get this one. How is the autofocus during video?

Question here please! Also being someone swapping from the 35mm f2, rather than from the 35mm f1.4 like most everyone else compares this lens to, and I'm noticing my 35mm f2 is substantially sharper than the new 33mm f1.4 I have, which yes is pixel peeping, but I like to be able to crop when necessary without worrying about quality loss, and want it to be future-proof.. Did I get a dud or what's going on here do y'all think?

I really wish aps-c and micro4/3 would have rationalized their lens focal lengths, rather than constantly reference “full frame equivalents”.

When I see this kind of lenses I think that Apsc looses its best quality, compactness. I mean to have these 1.4 lenses between costs, weight and size, one doesn't have the advantages of Apsc. This is to say I keep my f2 lens
@MisterTolley
@MisterTolley 3 жыл бұрын
Folk keep harping about the size and weight. It's actually (within a gnat's wing) the same size and weight as the 18-55mm and both share the same filter size. And with both in a camera bag it's a hard job to sort one from t'other. without peering closely. For interior work the low light performance and IQ is better than just very good. And if it's your thing, and if you try hard you can get really good sunbursts with it.
