Not only do they move on too quickly, they also expect you to memorize the sticking right off the bat. I have a background in melodic percussion, im used to having sheet music in front of me 😅. I can't think about tempo, stick height, technique, dynamics, and the sticking all at once! It's too much
@AcerArcYT

That is true but if you get better at sight reading. Then when they throw the sheet music back at you. You will be able to quickly read it and that will make you better at drumming(Snare and Drum Set).Little bit of advice.

I love this concept. I'm following the recommendation of doing the lesson every day for a week. As the week has progressed and I've become more confident, I've found that increasing the video playback speed is keeping it challenging.

Drums for some reason came really natural for me. The first time I sat at a drum kit I was able to play basic beats and 10 mins later did my first tom fill. I played snare drum in band in 6th grade (1998) so I knew basic sticking at least. Anyways, I never practiced and am self taught. Which means I kinda suck especially since my kit was packed away for 8 years, so I'm starting from scratch and going back to a single pedal. This is going to help immensely, thank you. I didn't realize how important it is to always practice with a metronome. I had been speeding through my fills and never noticed.

@@AcerArcYT I don’t think I’m quite that good but I’m definitely improving at a steady rate! I’m even getting my double roll going faster. I think one of the most difficult things is that I’m left-handed and so the sticking on the drum pad is not a problem but I’m wondering if it’s going to become an issue when I play with a real full set of drums and cymbals. Thanks for your comment! I hope you’re doing well! Let me know your thoughts and opinions if you have any.

The first problem right off the bat I see is that this is a beginners simple warm up exercise and is suppose to be counted as 2 groups of 4 (1234 / 1234) not a in odd time counting of 1 group of 8. Secondly counting in odd time signature only the first syllable of seven is said and not last half of the syllable. The 2nd syllable half of seven would be counted as another note /hit. Also for beginners a click or peep sound they can’t play with so it’s much simpler to actually have a snare drum hit sound. Other than that the lessen is solid.

A backstitck is when you use the back of your stick to play instead of the front. It's just a visual mostly used in a matching band drum line setting. If done well, it can look cool. If you're just getting started, I'd recommend just doing the sticking patterns.

These exercises are great for a practice pad! As far as more advanced lessons, it's hard to know what the next step for you would be without seeing you play first. I would recommend taking private lessons with the best teacher you can find. Do you have any videos of yourself playing I could see? Have you played any solos or etudes before. How would you describe yourself, beginner intermediate, or advanced? I have some more beginner snare drum videos which you can find here: Beginning Snare Drum: kzbin.info/aero/PL3NNUNRUiR2WNXw0HYLWqCf-OkYb5_N6L Let me know if you have any specific videos you'd like me to make.
