Aluminum snares have definitely been a focal point in the history of recording. Pros truly love them. Not that I want to start a feud between wood and metal, but i certainly love aluminum snares in the studio. I decided to start this series with a very affordable option in the realm of aluminum. Go ahead and feast your ears and eyes on it.

Nice video! I got my first aluminum a few weeks ago (from being nothing but a wood snare person) and I really like it. It's a 1965 Acrolite and sounds amazing! I liked it so much I got myself a 1970's Supraphonic today. Keep up the great videos please!

Just bought a new one (5x14) with tube lugs today for $249 shipped off of Reverb from a small music store. Considering Sweetwater has them for 399 I think I scored. Cant wait to play it!

I'm not a player that feeds into brand hype or product hype but I swear on Aluminum Snare drums. Slingy 400 ( with a Vintage Ambassador (2ply)) and Acrolite (with a regular 1 ply Ambassador) are my favorites.

No doubt aluminum is great. Since I"ve been playing I've heard other players use them and been awed. Mostly acrolites. Other than my 60's? Gretsch aluminum is my favorite.

A drier and less expensive Pearl version of Ludwig Supraphonics. Great value for money.

Aluminum is the punchiest and darkest metal like u said. its like a wood snare but crispier.. less ring than steel and bronze/brass

Aluminum is bright! It's warm and dry like maple but with a splash of that bright pingyness that you get from steel! If you want a dark version of this look into bronze!

When I look at this on Pearls website it has tube lugs. Why doesn't yours? And do you know how this compares to the Tama Starphonic Aluminium? Great video!

Cody the Barber the Pearl? It's a great snare but I did switch out the tension rods on my old ones.

The Jimmy Chamberlin Yamaha (5.5 x 14) is steel with a satin coating to mellow it out. I'm sticking a magnet on it right now, so not Al. A unique sounding snare that feels good to hit hard. It's the one I usually bring out live if in a big venue. Occasionally makes the cut on recordings, if I want a variety of snares for an album or ep.
