excellent information! please do not take this comment as a challenge, but it's AMAZING, that that little 'barrel linkage' would stand up to boar hog yanking on it! ASTOUNDING! many thanks! wish I'd learned this, as a younger man!

colton wilson That is a great idea! Thanks for the suggestion. I killed two nice canebreak rattlesnakes last year, but none so far this year. If I kill a nice one I'll be sure to do a skinning and eating video.

If, for my intended use, the spring clip is not strong enough to attach the snare to the extension cable, do I have the same issue with a spring clip attaching it to my anchor, like a tree trunk? How about like a heavy duty dog lead spring snap?

Would a quick link for connecting chain be a viable option for the swivel connection? You know, it looks like a single link of chain but is able to screw to itself in the center.

one those earth anchors r driven in can u pull them out after season is done
@Meattrapper9 жыл бұрын
***** Great question. From my experience, if they are driven into hard, rocky or frozen ground they can be very difficult to remove and usually you cut the cable and leave the anchor. Sometimes they can be pulled out but get bent up too badly to reuse. In my area, I trap in the swamp and mud so I can pull them out and reuse them. I have some that I get 2 or 3 seasons out of before they get bent or stuck. Thanks for the question!

The Meat Trapper which version of the Berkshire stake are you using? Regular, HD, or soft ground?
@christiansullivan47479 жыл бұрын
Great job. I replaced my inline swivels off my old coyote and bobcat traps and put better ones on it. Do you think they would do better than a normal heavy wire swivel. I figure it would be just as strong as normal ones. I am targeting beaver so two rounds to swivel would be better than one
@Meattrapper9 жыл бұрын
Christian Sullivan They will work, but are probably overkill. Beaver don't really pull hard compared to yotes or cats.

how deep would you bury the earth. anchor for a deer or pig?and how to you retrieve it? dig it out?
@Meattrapper2 жыл бұрын
Normally my anchors are on 18" of cable, but it depends on how hard your ground is. If I can't retrieve the anchor by pulling straight up, then I simply cut the cable at ground level and write it off.

do you have an online store? I think you mentioned some snare parts by brand name and I'd love to get the same supplies you have. Dakota Line has most of what you've mentioned but I'd rather support your channel.

Michael Marriam Thanks for the offer - but I do not have a store. Dakota Line is great and so is Newt Sterling at Snareone.com. Thanks for watching!

Have you tried making a snare with Penny as your locking system
@Meattrapper6 жыл бұрын
Yes - that is a very inferior way of doing it and should only be used in an emergency. A washer is better than a penny and a professional lock such as a cam lock or sure lock is far better. Given that a good lock is only a few pennies and is reusable, that's all I will use.
@kcderuyter61296 жыл бұрын
I live in the Northwest area Washington and have always been good at outdoor's, I've been getting into snares and traps and wanting to know more about how to survive should I ever need to be out there off the grid I've been watching your trapping school videos and was wondering what your preferred lock system is I know that you mentioned washers, slim locks, and cam locks I'm not sure what this Sherlock is also seen what they call a breakaway snare looks like it's just a piece of wire wrapped around one side of the cable and terminated through a loop on the other end. I appreciate the knowledge you parted on these videos thank you.

What are your thoughts on using rebar to stake snares?
@Meattrapper9 жыл бұрын
+River Rat Outdoors Nothing wrong with rebar at all. It works great. Some folks will tack weld a piece of #9 wire to the rebar and have a stake and support all in one. The reason I don't use rebar is that it is heavy and it is tiring to pound it into the ground. If a fella can trap out of a truck or 4 wheeler it's no big deal, but if you are on foot rebar gets heavy. Thanks for watching!
@riverrat39419 жыл бұрын
good to know! waiting for fur to prime up more before i get the snares out. Thanks!
