These people. God. All coming together. Confident, no ego. It's why so many people, from so many different places, come together and make such beautiful music, never ever getting in each other's way, but each of them making the other sound their best. Tremendous.

Anyone else kept smiling throughout this piece? This band is such an inspiration. I am REALLY VERY KEEN to find out what this band can do with Indian classical music, if and when they do that. Snarky Puppy, do something with Indian classical music no? Please??
@satsukikorin
@satsukikorin 3 жыл бұрын
On the one hand, yes, this is the level and group of musicians to maybe pull that off. On the other hand, I think it would be very, very difficult and I can't imagine how it would end up sounding like Snarky Puppy. The reason is that Indian classical music is so unison-based. There's (almost?) no harmony, and it doesn't naturally lend itself to a large ensemble of different, interlocking parts, which is what Snarky Puppy does best. That said, they're the geniuses, I'm not, and maybe they can find a way.
@PahadiSingsHere
@PahadiSingsHere 3 жыл бұрын
@@satsukikorin You are absolutely right about Indian classical music being very unison-based. However, it doesn't have to be so. In fact, one can feel immensely free to reharmonize the tune based on a particular and/or a mix of raga(s) (aka scales). It is actually very beautiful when experimented with. I am a trained Indian classical musician myself, and having also been trained in Western classical music has lead me to experiment with reharmonisation of some traditional folk or Indian classical tunes. I am not trying to brag here, just saying that it is very possible. If you're interested, I would suggest you to listen to some music/songs by some popular film-music Indian composers (A.R. Rahman, Santosh Narayanan, Ajay-Atul are some names that I can think of right now) who experiment with Indian ragas in their music all the time, while also incorporating Western arrangement/composition techniques (they don't go too crazy, but surely don't just follow the unison-based ideology of the traditional Indian classical music). I would also suggest listening to some songs by the Berklee Indian Ensemble. Again, they do their best to maintain the essence of the Indian song, while also using the unique Western contemporary sound. In essence, it doesn't have to take a genius to mould Indian tunes into a Western sound, however it is surely going to take geniuses like Snarky Puppy to produce an output like the above music. :)
@satsukikorin
@satsukikorin 3 жыл бұрын
@@PahadiSingsHere You're right! Now that you mention it, I have seen one or two KZbin clips of the Berklee project-I should probably go revisit those. And I have a really nifty album by Karsh Kale and Anoushka Shankar, called Breathing Under Water, that suggests some other possibilities. I guess I was fixing too much on the word 'classical' rather than on the broader 'Indian music'. ✌️🙂

Life became tolerable from just experiencing this intricate musicianship and master class contribution. I don't understand why music does to the brain and spirit as it does. But I NEED it and can't balance out my life without it. It's another language another form of LOVING someone if thee creators want it to be. For my mental health.....please stay safe and healthy.
