Larnell Lewis is one of the greatest drummes alive. He learned his parts for the entire album on the plane ride to record it.

I would class this as definitely listening music rather than background music. It's maybe like a language. You need to immerse yourself in it to fully get the nuances and 'feels' of it.

First time watching you reaction. This music is definitely not background music. This is upfront... in your face music. I noticed your head bobbing a lot to this background music...... background music don't make your bobble like lol 😂😊

lol, I remember when I first heard this and it felt so overwhelming, I also initially concluded that it was better as just background music. But that completely changed after a couple of listens. I don't play any instruments and I understand very little of music theory, and not to mention, I've never really liked jazz that much. However something about the way Snarky Puppy compose their music just grabs my attention. I ended up downloading 4 of their studio albums within a month of listening to lingus for the first time.

Just curious, what can you list as a top 5 that hold your attention and keep you entertained? Sparky is def a deep dive into the jazzy side but I'm just curious as to what isn't background music for you. ( to each their own, no judgment)

This is music for people that understand music theory and/or play instruments. I've personally listened to this maybe 50x or more and still my mind is blown. If you don't understand what is happening here, or the fact Cory's solo might well be one of the best jazz key solo's in modern times, or the impossibility of what Larnell is doing here then maybe it's too much. But yeah, I appreciate the hell out of this. On the other hand I find Eminem absolute garbage to listen to with his annoying nasal voice but you seem to like him (and I grew up on Ice-T and Public Enemy). Eye of the beholder I guess.

I've watched Lingus countless times, absolutely enthralled--- and I don't play an instrument and what little knowledge of music theory I have could never credibly be called "an understanding of music theory." I do like jazz, but I grew up in an era where it wasn't at all unusual to hear a solo in popular music.

I can tell you I understand little-to-nothing about music theory and I just can't resist the urge to listen to something from Snarky Puppy every single day, ever since I heard lingus for the first time about 5 years ago. They just became my favorite band overnight.

You really should not be commenting on this video before you’ve heard the whole thing. Because when it’s all over, you’re going to sound like a moron. Then you’re gonna feel like a moron. This is not lounge music and it’s definitely not something you would put in the background on a date. This is epic music played by musicians who I remembered through time. You need to listen to the drummer, and at least to the piano solo before you make any other comments… But it’s too late now.

I mean, it was really something watching this guy effectively apologizing for the fact that he has a short attention span. He'd probably get bored by Bruce Hornsby's "The Way It Is" because of all the soloing Bruce does, and that was a legit #1 hit song. But then again, in my mother's day, "Take Five" was a hit song and that's straight-up jazz in a 5/4 time signature.
