This is the purpose of token studio in a enterprise setting. Tokens are upcoming web standard and tokens can already be exported as json / css variables for your dev pipeline to consume. If bricks/acss could read this json or pasted variable file that would be dope

I think this tool is for those who really want to stay in Figma, people who really want for it to be part of their design workflow. And I can think of various reasons for that, some you mentioned yourself. For everyone else, Frames inside Bricks will do the same job, but in a much efficient way, in the "native" web environment, without the need for a middleman (in this case Figma). And with the features that you more recently added to ACSS, specially with the Plaster acquisition, it would be counterproductive to deviate from the web environment and add Figma to your workflow if you don't already use it. Bricks + ACSS + Frames is simply too powerful. (In most cases) you don't actually need Figma.

It really depends on the project. I can design in the builder all day long, but for many projects it's truly better to work in Figma. It might be more difficult for solopreneur types to understand this, but anyone who works with multiple people or with companies with multiple decision makers, Figma is far more efficient. In any case, this is for those who want that added environment and it won't negatively affect those who don't. It's always good to have options should you need them!

Very excited to see you tackle this + July is my birthday so I guess thanks in advance for the gift of making my life easier? 😂 The only thing I’m on the fence about is, in my experience when I do the UI design step, especially when trying to be really creative and step out of the paradigm of “squares within squares” (*visually*, of course), I tend to completely destroy whatever templates / library assets I used to create the wireframes. This makes me question whether I’d still be able to use Frames as the basis for development once I get to that stage. But love the idea, and can’t wait to see more! 🙌

This is why Frames for Figma exists :) You can do whatever you want with it in the creative process. It's still going to map just fine to an ACSS development workflow. Note: Automatic Tokens was created by Tomi who is a designer, not by me or our dev team. He knows the creative process quite well! He's now my main designer and will be leading the charge on Frames for Figma. We're confident it'll fit your workflow just fine!

It’s very impressive what the Geary team continues to build and develop. A design tool like Figma doesn’t fit in my workflow. I design wireframes in my development tool. Maybe down the road I’ll have a “designer” who isn’t a developer and isn’t familiar with using Bricks to wireframe a site but for now this products doesn’t fit in my workflow.

Since you're doing the work with Frames in Figma, you can do the same work in Frames with Bricks and it builds the site for you properly. The Frames are exactly the same in both platforms. We could build an integration, but they're complicated and messy and that's a whole different product in itself. In fact, someone already created it for Oxygen and it didn't sell very well. Very hard to execute correctly. Right now it''s better if people just use Frames in Bricks to create the same layouts in seconds and then apply the design styling.

Just discovered Figma and I'm surprised, what you can do with it (especially the "variants" of the frames here). Looks really promising! The only thing that might still be a bit suboptimal is the dependency on the Tokens Studio plugin. Hopefully it will always be available and maintained.

Are the frames like objects? If I start manually tweaking one of the frames, will it effect the master copy or any other copies in the whole document? What if I want to take a frame and then make adjustments and replace the master frame with my version? I suppose I can create a new object from it but can I adjust the master copies? The point is, I'm not sure how much "lock in" there is when it comes to taking those templates and wrecking them into the customized mockups for the client. For example, could I take a default frame, change it up, then use my new copy as the one used across the mockup while still taking advantage of the ACSS tokens? To be honest some of these features I've never even seen in Figma so all this stuff about variables, tokens, device size, instances, seems like a pretty tightly integrated system and I'd be afraid of breaking something or messing up an instance or wrecking some auto layout or something, I don't know. Maybe I need to go back and re-learn Figma lol

Current native application of tokens (variables) inside Figma has limitations. It is certainly a step in the right direction but Figma Studio plugin (free version) is still ahead in many ways. Once we’ll be able to achieve the same level of functionality natively in Figma, it is only a logical step to ditch Figma Studio plugin.

Your existing solutions are so hyped up but buggy in practice. Will we now have to be subribed to 3 tools to use this? acss, frames and this. That’s a ton of money and when you increase your rates we’re screwed. Are you moving towards what adobe is doing? What is the end goal?

We fix bugs faster Than any other tool available. We have literally less than 5 bugs in the tracker currently, where other tools have dozens or hundreds. If prices ever do go up, we wont raise them for existing users.
