Sneak peek behind the scenes - HEMATICS Vor Ort - shoot July 2020

We had a wonderful weekend in Salzburg, after such a long time the shooting felt a bit like a real HEMA event 😍 Especially because three of our supporters from Switzerland and Germany took the time to visit us, fence with us, sit around the bonfire and they can even be seen in some of the videos we produced. In addition, there was a focused individual training with Ingulf Popp-Kohlweiss and a photo session with Stefan Feichtinger ( / themahistoricalfencing ) for all of them. 📸⚔️
We shot theoretical and practical tutorials about the concept of Vor & Nach, a sandbag workout, thrusting from the Langort and some other cool stuff.🎥
A big thank you goes again to INDES Wien for their support during the shooting and to INDES Historische Europäische Kampfkunst Salzburg for their hospitality, especially Laura Oztmr for the beer tasting!

@@HEMATICS Honestly, I was so invested by the content of your videos that I just now realized that it is presented in German and I was reading subtitles the entire time...(mind quite blown) I think that is as good of praise as a subtitle can get, thank you so much for asking! ^-^

@@dude4real9455 very nice to hear that! 😄 We've been thinking about on how to handle the language barrier, because recording the audio in English as well would take us like way too much time at the moment, so I guess subtitles are a good deal for now! Also it may help you to read the Liechtenauer texts in it's original language 😄

@@HEMATICS Help me read Liechtenauer...Cheeky buggers exposing us to varied cultures and languages and the theoretical benefits therein in their kickass fencing tutorial videos, the gall! :P On a less tongue in cheek note; In my opinion, the most appropriate language you can use would be a language the presenter is most comfortable/expressive in. It may seem counter-intuitive but it may be that the tone and character of the presentation is far more important than the language, as body language and pitch/intonation play a massive role in communication, so it is important that they appear natural and not overly forced, provided subtitles are included, of course. Now, if you are equally expressive in both languages, it would seem that the one that covers the largest demographic would be the most appropriate. Granted, if you are considering being extra accessible to most of your German-speaking audience by targeting them specifically, you are still reaching your international viewers and maintaining a super accessible format for your primary audience in your current format(which I would believe would be the goal here). And that simply would not be possible if you were exclusively presenting in English TLDR: I don't think it really matters for those of us already invested in the subject(fencing/HEMA related channels and blogs, etc...), but having a few key "Bump" videos in English, could land some new international audience on your channel(Especially the primarily English speaking ones), as something they could more easily stick to from a first impression, exploring the rest of your content, without having that initial jarring language barrier moment. (which not everyone has, mind you, though the internet has found it's lingua franca, so that point of view might be something to consider. We all share a common semi/butchered non-native Engurish ^^)

Producing single videos in English is something we've been already talking about, just stay tuned and see what we're making out of it ;) (I'm just very glad that Ingulf has to do the talking part and not me :D)
