I was drenched in Zeppelin. Tool. Rush. King Crimson. Then this album came out. Had zero in common with anything I was listening to or playing in any of the bands I was in. It literally knocked me over. Kelli and that who atmospheric trip hop thing just entranced me from the first listen. Such a talent. And unfortunately... a wasted opportunity for them.

Dude that's almost the exact same story for me.... @ I can’t knock their sound in any way. It’s definitely amazing how they combined all created it to make X. In the 90’s it absolutely resonated with me and the music industry’s movement at that time. Still today it is relevant yet I am surprised when I hear a few people say this sounds like a 90’s song.

@CentralPerspective-my2evАй бұрын
@@salazarpassadore9069 The sales of albums really do not support that theory. You can objectively say this based off your own feelings yet record sales and earnings is the real measurement by a majority of the population. MTV and radio airtime was the measurement in the 90's. Today it is Google, Apple, social media and money earned per Concert per unit of time. Being a great artist is something the most unknown people are great at, being a great artist, being loved and keeping a large following is what makes great bands continue to have a following or even be remembered. Sneaker Pimps prominence disappeared when Kelly was pushed aside. They pushed aside their future ability to make money because people wanted Kelly singing with the Sneaker Pimps sound. Not the reverse.

Kelli Ali (nee Dayton) did not write any of the songs for the Sneaker Pimps. She was brought in as vocalist well after the entire album was written, reduced to demo and recording contract was signed. Not putting her down in any way. Just keeping the record straight. She was fabulous in her front role, better than any of the guys have ever been at lead vocals. Chris Corner is the principal genius behind this band and writes and sings all vocals to this day. Liam Howe is often a co-writer and does all the keys/electronics.
@Reticuli6 ай бұрын
@@stevengottlieb3449 She wasn't allowed to contribute to any of the album songs' lyrics and is unfortunately not credited. The agreement the guys had with her was for her to do the b-sides on the first album. Pretty stupid to not do another album with her with more contribution and shared credits.

Some false info in the comments. Becoming X was a great album and Kelli Alis vocals were brilliant on it, but she didn't write the songs Liam Howe and Chris Corner did (with lyrics also by Ian Pickering). They produced pretty much the whole album and Chris sang on the demos and then decided that a female vocal would work better. After lots of touring and burnout they returned to the write a follow up and Chris wanted to sing the songs he had written this time round. They were producing together as Line Of Flight before Sneaker Pimps. The follow up album Splinter was (at least in my opinion) a great record just more of a band record whereas Becoming X was definitely a more computer heavy production. Her vocals certainly wouldn't have suited Splinter IMHO.

I've been on a Sneaker Pimps feast just recently, and it's a real shame the narrative that is spun as it sheds a really bad light on the creative entity as a whole. I'm glad to see both Chris and Kelly are still creating music and video, let's hope for a collab in the future.
