Speaking for myself, I can only say, I don’t even bother to open my SNKRS app for hype kicks I might want. I’m over their shut up and take what I’ll give you mentality. It’s become a joke, while other brands are happy to sell me Kicks I like. It’s not like I expect to get every hype release, but to take L’s on literally every hype drop is demoralizing. If I really really want the Kicks, I’m forced to pay resell or go to other brands, I choose the latter.

the problem is they killed their own silhouettes.. saw trends so over saturated the market - dunk lows, jordan 1's being the two main offenders.. then everyone has a pair. but when there is a limited release it's a shit show and mainly goes to resellers (see: Futura, Travis Scotts, Bode, etc.. etc..etc..) so this just creates bad feeling from long time buyers. I dont want another fucking pair of pandas that everyone is wearing, and im not paying resell anymore with the amount of backdooring going on, all they need to do is find a proper balance between over saturation and too limited. false scarcity is utter bullshit. Nike not offering good incentive/discounts to their members is a terrible way to treat a valued customer. Other brands give out discount point system on top of free shipping while Nike charges a big amount before you can truly avail of their "free shipping". A lot like the video game and movie industry, Nike thought this little window of data would last forever and ignored all the massive factors contributing to their recent hype (pandemic money, Travis Scott influence, resellers). They are absolute fools for thinking the 2020 era would last for more than a few years. Everything you said is spot on. Main thing is they need to lower their retail prices and improve comfort for all silhouettes. This is not 2020 anymore where people had disposable income from stimulus checks. Inflation is stressing everyone now. Sneakernomics, I do not disagree with your take on Innovation but a problem just as big is the fact they limit stocks on collabs like Off-whites, Travis scott and GRs like kobes. It's crazy because they stock 25k-100k pairs for limited pairs and they go all in on other GRs to the point they sit on sites and in stores until their discounted. Any collab, kobe, OGs or popular figures on sneakers sale and common sense would tell nike this too.

When NIke decided to fuck most of the Mom and Pop stores and become slaves to the footlocker/jdsports mafia whilst also trying to go at it themselves direct to retail via their own site and further add fuel to the SNKRS, it signaled the beginning of the end. The inline offers are garbage, and just become take downs of classics and they number of colorways they churn out don't make sense. I'd rather buy reps than fuck with them any longer. It's a shame that they really don't care about the consumers and retailers who have supported them and helped them become the behemoth that they are today.

There are many factors to the downfall of Nike and I agree with your takes. One take I have is from a business perspective Nike needed resellers. Flooding the market killed the “hype” on many of their models. I define hype in this case as being limited and hard to obtain. Resellers kept a lot of general releases hard to obtain. Now that shoes are easy to obtain people lose interest.

Another trend that Nike missed is the explosion in hiking, trail runners and Gorpcore. There are two sides in those, those seriously pursuing trail running as a sport and second those who pursue it a fashion, an offshoot of Athleisure. Salomon has grabbed a stronghold on these markets, along with Hoka, Altra, Merell, Columbia, Vasque, Keen, and Northface. Even though Nike does have trail shoes, they seem more of the casual fashion type. Nike ACG also caters to the fashion lifestyle and the Gorpcorp, using the Nike strategy of reviving old retros but again playing follower to the likes of Salomon and Hoka which are constantly introducing cutting edge designs for these markets.

I also see the same for NB in the nr future but I would think for young kids Nike would be an ancient brand selling 80s and 90s retro footwear. And expected to be triple the revenue of mid/high by 2030. That’s disturbing for a company associated so strongly with hoops. And, when the low key minimalist buyers look to Nike, what do they find? Ive got a pair of plasticy leather aj1 low true blues from mid 2000s, still going strong. Have went through 2 pairs of Hokas, each lasting only 1 yr. Nimbus, Kayano, same thing. As a 47y/o wide flat footer, the ones and dunks are actually comfy. Most times I loose lace. Ride a motorcycle in em. Hunt and walk the woods in em. I bought a wooden shoe stretcher and thin hefeluxe in soles. Both help immensely. Something about that grounded feeling when you got the Js on, not bouncing around unsteady at 6'4" 300lb. They're like my cowboy boots. Lol Just picked up the Barons, love em.

Jordan brand is doing well believe it or not. Or at least maintaining. Its value has gone up. I don't know how much of that has to do with inflation but it's the company as a whole that is suffering. As the video says it's a running and basketball issue.

It's very simple. It's called inflation, Last two generations have never seen a real horrible economy. 17% home loan interest rates, gas rations, etc. Many have lived thier teens and early twenties enjoying QE infiniti. Those days are over and it's gonna get worse, much worse.

It's because Nike and Jordan brand raises the price every year even when the economy isn't doing good and sneakers aren't a necessity and resellers buying them all even though QC got worse makes Nike think people will spend more money on cheaper quality goods and they raise the prices even more. But people don't have as much disposable income so it's really stupid for them to raise the prices every year when we all know how much they used to cost when retro Jordans released and they haven't improved the sneaker technology, they just raised the price. If it wasn't for sneaker resellers Jordan 1 high OG's would still be costing $130 to $140 and Jordan 4's and 5's would still be costing $180 to $190 like they did before StockX. Retro Jordans are sneakers from the 80's and 90's and the Jordan 1 was a $65 sneaker when it released and the technology is the same as back then but now cost $180

I agree with your point about CEO and their heavy reliance on retro models. Jordan brand is growing well, but their heavy focus on retro models damaged the whole portfolio as a company. While sneakerheads are enthusiastic about retro models, Nike can't grow further without average people's attention. And Nike has been losing it due to the lack of innovation as well as ridiculous quality control.
