I spent a summer in London in 2008 with my best friends. We lived in an apartment with 7 other roommates on brick lane. We all last minute decided to go to Glastonbury…we did the wristband pass back trick because Facebook had just come out. Best 4 days I’ve ever had…coolest festival you will ever go to. I’ve sat right on those ancient stones absolutely tripping balls while people in wedding dresses walked around playing the violin…the sunrise watch party was the best. So stoked you got to experience it!
@gracetaylor37397 ай бұрын
did you just print out a fake wristband?
@geverniveup7 ай бұрын
@@gracetaylor3739 no there was a guy on Facebook that you would pay $30 quid and he would slip a wristband on over your hand and walk you in to a camping spot. Then would slip the wrist band off and you were in and he would go do it again with other people. It’s a festival of 250,000 people so it was rare you ever got called out for no wrist band
@geverniveup7 ай бұрын
@@gracetaylor3739 no we found a guy on Facebook we paid 30 quid each and he had his own wrist band and a loose fitting one. I went to Glastonbury twice in the 80s and three times in the 90s. In 1984, when punters could drive private vehicles onto the site, I hid below a load of students' rucksacks in the back of their minibus after they'd picked me up hitch-hiking there. One of my friends, who'd already arrived, nearly gave the game away when he saw the dog that used to live with me and started shouting out "Is Peter in there?". Last time I went was in 1997, and it was dangerously-overcrowded, particularly in a 'pinch point' between the Pyramid and Other Stages. I can't help thinking that was 'coz of the number of folk who'd 'bunked-in'. Anyway, I've not been since, but to smaller events (for which I've paid, btw), such as Wychwood, The Downs Festival (here in Bristol) & The Lunar Festival.

Kudos to you for your bravado in just WALKING RIGHT THROUGH THE MAIN GATE! 😂 And i love that we got to see you doing it! To be fair, people do that sometimes ... it's one way. When i went the first time, before the big fence was built, just up the road from the main gate was a field with a line of people walking somewhere, so we followed them and it led to a gate, across a lane, through a hole in a hedge and that was it we were in. The 2nd time i went my band was playing there, on one of the theater stages, so we got in for free. I think my favourite thing about Glastonbury festival is just walking around the tents enjoying the vibes, meeting people and stopping for chats, smokes and drinks and cups of tea. - and going on missions to find things, get water, ect

Only ever went once to Glasto, in 1990 (or 91, I'm not sure). Went with friends, no tickets, in a Ford Escort. We got to a police roadblock, where they asked us if we had tickets. We sheepishly said no and they said "ok, traveler's field is down on the left. We couldn't believe it; all you had to do was not be scared to camp with hundreds (thousands?) of crusty travelers and you had total access to the whole site, for free! What a blast it was... We even had the traveler's stage nearby (Wango Riley's), where we got to see Hawkwind, nearly from our tent. Best memory: going up the hill at night tripping, seeing this crazy town laid out before us, with waves of rock, jazz, classical, house.. coming up from below, then chilling for a while before plunging back down into the madness! Those were the daze....

I watched this video on the Friday morning of Glastonbury 2023 and it inspired me to sneak in myself. Going in the front door is absolutely NOT as easy as Connor makes it look here, I tried the same thing twice at two seperate gates and got laughed at and turned around. However, with a bit of tenacity, a few tall fences climbed, several hours crawling through dense scrub & some blind luck at a poorly staffed gate at the far back of the festival site - I eventually made it in. The uncertainty, adrenaline and excitement if it all was incredible. Best decision ever & thanks Connor for the inspo!

Krishnas all came along the way with their instruments, singing, so Mike started playing along to their tune but with a jazz vibe which caused all of them ... like 80 or so people to all crowd around the back of the van to play along with Mike and they're all just looking at us like a bunch of blissed out space cadets, happily playing their music, it was a funny moment.
