This is legit. I got caught in in a few years ago by a friend in training. We were both shocked how strong it was and how no one else seemed to have known about it.

I like how he told us where he got the trick before he got into the details. Reminds me of those recipes online where you get a story first before the goods :) Also shout-out to Adam, I tried to out stare him at the end but I blinked first

Did this today at a tournament, got DQ’d for reaping (I’m a white belt) However this works for me all the time when rolling, love this counter attack

Well, as the guy that often finds himself going for cheeky ankle locks, this is looking like another reason I'll be having to bail to a k guard style finish

Great 👍🏼 move - does Adam have any defense to that or it’s too late once you position it?
@tearsintherain63116 ай бұрын
Since people are asking: this is what to do if someone goes to ashi and does not expose the opposite leg, and it works because when you remove the foot from your hip it’s very hard to make you tap, the other person needs to really drive their foot against your hip for the submission to work, so you remove it, and then you attack that same foot, which if done too close to the heel is the same mechanic as a toehold, but I’m not sure if that’s the intended submission here or just to target the tendon
@moneytimesfifteen6 ай бұрын
The first guy never bails and starts trying to escape until it's too late because he thinks he has the advantage because he initiated things. It also helps if you're long legged because he'll be choking your shin while you're at the right spot on his foot

When learn these leg attacks how much caution should be used? Like how easy is it to get injured here?

i don't understand why you would be able to hold out longer than the person that you just put the ankle lock on. Why does the counter work better than the first ankle lock?
@tearsintherain63116 ай бұрын
Because you remove the foot creating leverage from your hip which is what makes the submission work
@bit-wisetech61906 ай бұрын
If the person is quick with the initial ankle lock and/or you don’t do some defensive positioning with your foot, you won’t have time for this counter. What makes this work is if you can get your own foot that’s being attacked in a defensive position, they will have to take time to adjust to finish the lock. In the mean time, you can use this counter attack, which will catch most by surprise, which means they won’t do anything to defend it and you can finish before they do.

Why counter looks more powerful? Counter's breaking mechanic is close to ankle compare to original one? Because counter did not add more advantage element (like more heel exposure etc) or I missed it
@wtfimcrying6 ай бұрын
This doesnt require heel exposure no? Its an ankle lock not heel hook.
@tearsintherain63116 ай бұрын
You remove the foot from the hip which is the point of leverage needed for the SAL, and if anything this could feel like a toehold but def not a heel hook
@SlashnKashmir6 ай бұрын
@@tearsintherain6311 One of the counter of ankle lock is Aoki lock and of course with that you have heel exposure of opponent therefore I said heel. My guess for this video is also there is a twist for foot in the counter that's why it is more effective than original ankle lock.

How is throwing the second leg over not reaping? Or at least very close to it? Could one put their heel into the opponent's top hip instead of on their chest to finish?
@PerKristian936 ай бұрын
It's not close to reaping. Adam's right leg isn't involved at all, let alone being reaped. His foot is tucked safely underneath Chewie's left thigh, as opposed to on top of it. That would be reaping.

It’s only illegal if your other leg is controlling the knee

Chew isn't controlling Adam's right leg and doesn't start from between. No reap.

So do it back…noted
@tearsintherain63116 ай бұрын
Technically it’s not doing it back because if he’s doing what I think he is it kinda feels like a toehold and also doing it back would be 50/50 when chewie grabs the leg on top, a mirrored reversed move, instead he goes for the same side, bottom side

isnt the feed to the chest considered reaping?
@bit-wisetech61906 ай бұрын
No, because the leg you are attacking isn’t being trapped by your legs.
