Snes 50/60hz comparison (pal version)

Thanks for the comparison. I'm in Australia and the first thing I noticed when II dipped into retro gaming at 15 was that Sonic the hedgehog's music sounded slower. I didn't know about the difference back then until a few years later. I didn't think much of it "it still plays the same". Looking at this though... it REALLY doesn't. Going to be switching to NTSC and importing my games. Can't believe we had to put up with this.

Had my snes modded back in the day - had to take it to London. The difference afterwards was incredible.

I m from Greece and allways had a 50hz one when i was young. I spent much money to find a Pal SNES clean of that yellow cell amd especially clean controllers. I knew that Pal was playing on 50 than 60hz but all it matters on retro gaming is to make u feel young again.

Note that in the Rev 1 European SMW, the letterbox is actually smaller because this version uses overscan mode, since the extra lines are visible in PAL TVs. The SMW you're running is the Rev 0 version, which is identical to the US version.

You should have tried Mario All-Stars with this. There's a lockout, but you can bypass it - however all the games have significant graphical glitches. For example the sky in SMB2 is completely the wrong color!

So the reason why SNES don't have a 10NES chip is the regional lockout is built into the software. Nice video.

I though Mario world was optimised for 50 apart from the opening, also is there a way to keep 50hz but have it fill up the whole screen?

No, it's not just the about 50hz it changes the res to its respected region.

ok could you please explain to me like a 6 year old... all pal games are slowed down compared to the NTSC versions? WTF? how much did this mod cost and what is it called? is it simply a modification of the picture output rate or the cpu? Thank you and nice video! Going to get a Pal version too (will look for 1 chip)

pal systems are slowed down by 10 hz, yeah honestly to save you the trouble i'd just buy a japanese super famicom with power adapter on ebay. unless you're interested in doing this mod

It isnt really the best idea to play pal snes games on 60hz because they have been modified and optimized for the normal 50hz.

I think 60hz doesn’t mean 60fps ... and when you play a pal game in 60hz mode it still 50fps because the version of the pal cartridge is 50fps ..this is what I think

No it does change to 60fps. I had a modified Saturn and in 60mhz mode it ran NTSC games 60fps. But yeh PAL games are often optimised or changed so could get different results.
