I remember finding this cart in the 90s it was ultra-violent for the sidescrolling standards. Graphics were unusual, because only Mortal Kombat or DK would use it. What a time to be a gamer.

Can I just say, level 1 is a bloody masterpiece in thematic atmosphere. Starting with the background, yes its just a jungle; but there's something off about it, not enough that its something new, but just enough that it arrives at an uncanny valley of locations, something which I didn't think would be possible. Just a few steps from the starting point you find the first enemy. You can write an entire paragraph about these guys, but just the fact that they keep shooting after you blow their heads off gives off the perfect vibe between alien threat and supernatural phenomenon. Also, you have guys hanging from trees; by itself this is disturbing imagery enough, but them shooting back at you? This game is brutal! And it all comes back to the soundtrack. It starts off with a mix of suspense and anticipation, this is a 1/2 man mission, a covert operation, in foreign territory, anything might jump at you at any second; unphased by the disturbing familiarity of the environment, you move forward with the resolve only this game's main characters could possess. Then it picks up, as your cover is blown, there's no choice but to rain bullets on these unholy creatures. Its so simple, but these moments of tension alternated with explosive action complete the atmosphere of a level that is, again, a masterpiece.

The song PLUTO is where this games absolute PEAK child-hero-joy-feeling sets in, in my opinion. Just that song on full blast with lots of bass and max volume and we're ready to take on the world ❤❤❤

That track and level are probably the best level on Doom Troopers. When you have to blow up the station, this song is super fitting to the fast paced nature of the frantic action aside from the beginning section of it. The boss ain't no joke either.

Note for nerds: 1. Download Mercury track 2. Put it in any program that can change pitch 3. Pitch down track to ~0.7 4. Get the most badass industrial track ever P.S. Can do with Pluto track either P.S.S. Works only with SNES version. Genesis version of the soundtrack is brilliant without any changes :3

@@ClevrYogi Nope, 40k is from the mid 80s, and if i recall correctly mutant chronicles came out in the early 90s.
