I got this for Christmas in 1992. I had no background in RPGs, no indication to my parents that I would like it. Fairly sure the guy at Babbage's sold my dad on buying the most expensive SNES game on the shelf. My God am I glad he did. It changed my life. 30 years later, I listen to this soundtrack and reminisce on the hours and hours I spent in this game. I once leveled everyone up to 99, and then maxed out all experience points to 999999... only to have my save deleted mysteriously after a sleep-over at a friend's house. Thank you for taking the time to play through and upload.

I hated turn based RPG games when I was a kid. I appreciate them now, though, for sure. I had a friend who had Final Fantasy for the NES back then, and I refused to even play it.

A true classic and one of the first real steps to bring actual characterization to the genre along with a true cinematic quality to RPGs. It's a real pity they made the American version an EZMode because they apparently thought we were all Neanderthals across the Pacific Ocean. Some of the gaming mechanics in the Japanese version make the game much more interesting and mentally engaging to play.

Yeah, they should've just made it optional for easy mode when creating a new file. Maybe just tweaked enemy stat values and/or party member level gains. Stripping away abilities is a bizarre approach and without Edge's ability to steal sirens, getting pink tail drops in the lunar subterrane isn't even worth attempting.

I thought the us version is difficult. The battles are not turn based. They are but the battles are active , similar as if you was playing Chrono Trigger. The enemies will NOT WAIT if you idle during battle

My first and most memorable FF games next to FFIII (FFVI)! The character, story, music, etc was epic. I know it’s a long shot but I hope SE will remaster this and III (VI) at some point.

I ended up trading my SNES to my friends back in the day. It was a good move, I was broke and didn't get new games often. They bought it and we had one hell of a summer playing it along with Street Fighter 2 and playing Hacky Sack all hours of the night... good times. Much simpler back then.

Not quite. They keep certain things that the US release didn't like character abilities. It mostly just made the translation easier for Japanese children to understand. While also making some things easier but not in the way FF2 US did

Do I have to start over all my characters are level 99 I was just trying to get to a higher exp how ever after one battle I went to level 99. Now I see I'm so suppose to lose to Kain at the castle because i hit him like 100 times with 931 damage and he still ain't beaten. So now I'm stuck hopefully I don't have to start over.

I don't really get some of the modern criticisms of this game. Some people say it's too easy: "all you have to do is mash a the whole game." It isn't a hard game, but if you don't stop to grind, there some challenging places. The localization could've been a little better some places, I'll admit, but the story is great. The pacing is well done. The soundtrack is second only to FF6 and Chrono Trigger. The graphics for the time were fantastic. Still one of my favorites that I go back to from time to time.

I fight every battle to gain levels and usually make sure I am at higher levels when encountering bosses. I avoid short cuts and Emergency exits

So, my comment got blown into pieces thanks to stupid KZbin's filter system although I didn't even say anything inappropriate. We can't even speak our minds anymore. The title's name is really weird to look at lol. I, like many people simply call it Final Fantasy IV as this is the modern times. I have Final Fantasy III (I simply call it FFVI respectively) included on the SNES Mini. In November, I found a copy of this game at a retro/modern videogame store for $70. I bought the game despite not having an SNES console yet. I managed to get the console from DKOldies as a Christmas gift. I have yet to hook the console up. I'm wondering if the internal battery needs replacing. Only one way to find out...

Blame Nintendo and Square for localizing and releasing almost 3 years late the first game, not giving enough time to localize the second and third ones, and choosing the newest game of the newest console where they wanted to make lots of money from, and renaming it II to avoid several letters of gamers asking Wait IV? What happened to II and III?

Easy mode! Only thing I seen that was "easy", was the auto targeting. I just came off of Final Fantasy for the NES. Nothing like paying attention to where your characters strike every turn. This auto-sorted...therefore it was easy-slacker heaven.
