SNES Longplay [331] Ganbare - Daiku no Gen-san

I remember picking this up one Saturday afternoon for £60 from a local importer at the time, I fired it up and was absolutely horrified that it wasn't a straight port of the Arcade game. I was going to take it back and swap it for something else but the shop was close until Monday morning. So, I grabbed a beer and started hammering, no pun. I loved it, didn't take it back and still have it here in the collection 24 years later. Great game.

Ganbare Daiku no Gensan (SFC) Japanese Anime. Ganbare Daiku no Gensan is the sequel to the Hammerin's Harry games found in the arcade and NES. While scouring the net for information on this Super Famicom title (back in 2006) it shocked me there wasn't much to be found. Maybe part of it is because it's called Ganbare Daiku no Gensan instead of Hammerin's Harry? While it's no Super Mario World, it definitely deserves a moment in the spotlight. Ganbare! Daiku no Gen-san is an action game, published by lrem, which was released in Japan in 1993. December 22, 1993 Action & Adventure

It's pretty good, Irem's track record was mostly solid, MOSTLY. That is, unless they outsource their properties, as they did for GunForce on SNES, to B.I.T.S. of all developers.

La verdad es un divertido juego y una historia simpatica,jugue 3 de esta serie,este mismo de super nintendo,el de arcade y el de playstation portable,aunque... me encanta esa loquita con motosierra,mika hawatari aunque tambien conocida como mika motosierra,al menos en este juego si que la usa como con ganas,el de gensan de psp solo huye y apenas se la ve blandiendo algo pero no parece una motosierra,estara bien,lo disfruto. XD

Fun Fact: This game is originally based on a pachinko series called "Daiku no Gensan", which is made by Sanyo. Sanyo is well known for "Sea Story" since 1999, and they even released a fresh new pachinko named "Daiku no Gensan Chouidaten" in 2020. Also, one of the bosses in this game named Mika and Dan are now buddies of Tamura Gensan, the new Gensan in Chouidaten.

There's even a Japanese arcade game based on this Gensan series, which came out in 1990.

Well, some of us outside Japan appreciate Irem for games like this, not just R-Type, though that too is a good series. The Gen-san games don't tend to be cheap, save for maybe the Famicom port of the arcade game, even this one isn't all too cheap to buy (I got lucky, $13 cart only), but like the others, this one is great.

The enemies are construction workers, so by the looks of it, the story must be something like a big company destroying Hammerin' Harry's family house to build something and Harry going on a hammerin' rampage, mercilessly murdering everyone who has a construction tool in hands. But Harry is not your typical anti-hero, he's more of a villain, since he gets so enraged that he also murders kittens and old ladies. Bloody stuff in here, pretty dark game.

@@krautgazer The story in this game is more comprensible in the psp version,the game is more known has "gensan" that's it simple,go to coolrom,use a good psp emulator and play it but well... the game is in spanish and i don't know if i can change the name but the story is more epic so compare a little of it but not completely.

Third game, there was a part 2 for the Famicom courtesy of Micronics and Irem, and there were also two great Game Boy Gen-San games, as well as a GBC one.
