I fucking loved this game when I first played it on my beloved Snes, aged 13 in '93. As an adult I realise how much an acid trip of a game it is! Crazy creativity. And the music is the nuts. It has this frenetic, colourful, playful infectious arcade vibe that is rare to see in games these days....

For those of you that's old enough to remember. This game makes me think of the old cartoon the Beatles made called the yellow submarine. That cartoon was about tripping off of acid.
@gskaloyan9 жыл бұрын
Derek Harris no it wasn't. It was a kind of modern fairy tale based on songs by The Beatles. What it is *about* is the conquering and then revolution of a fictional realm at the bottom of the sea called Pepperland whose strength and life come from the power of music.

Is it just me, or did they add a stage and boss that wasn't present in the Arcade version a la Turtles in Time? If so, thats a really awesome touch. Konami was at its peak in the 90's, and even though they're...not good now, that just makes us go back to the Konami games we know and love all the more.

The 9th stage, the Bath House Stage, is exclusive to only this version of the game. So yes, Konami added an extra level to this port, not even the arcade original has it.

@@Persac7 Parodius has lots of references to Gradius II. The most prominent ones are the showgirl from stage 2 (reference to the crab walker from Gradius II final stage), the eagle boss which is similar to the phoenix from Gradius II, the moai stage song, which draws some lines from the Gradius II song, and the presence of the penguin character, which works very similar to Gradius II equipment. It is interesting however how there are practically no reference to Gradius III, despite being released after that game.
