Here are two Laps of the 3 mile long Snetterton 300 Circuit in Norfolk England. The circuit is fast and consists of 12 corners, has a smooth layout and is well maintain. The car I'm driving is a 2020 Mazda MX5 100th Anniversary Edition with a 184PS 2 litre engine and a factory fit limited slip differential, it's completely standard apart from some Carbotech XP10 ceramic aramid brake pads. I'm using Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres.

I started browsing videos of ND MX5's and have watched every single one of yours. Hope to get one someday and drive it around France as well

I live vicariously through your track efforts Richard as my ND2 only occasionally trips the light fantastic on the local roundabouts / B-roads :) Cheers, Kevin

Good stuff Richard.. Loved that, 6.30 trail braking!!, in the motorcycle world (on road) it creates polar opinions, the training industry hate it (understabke for novice teaching), but over the yrs it's kept me out of hedges a few times.

What is the best way to practice rev matching with the gas? I really enjoy watching you drive track, very cool! Have you listened to UP! by R.E.M?

I feel like you absolutely have the ability to go faster especially in the fast corners. I guess its hard to push the limits with your own car

Great video, looking to get an (NB) MX5 soon mostly for track days (don't want to take my daily driver) and Snetterton is my nearest track. At 7:58 you say tyres cost £50, what's that based on? I'm guessing that's not for a full set of PS4s!

Can’t keep my eyes off your socks mate 😂 had to watch it twice 😅 Seriously though, have you thought about teaching how to ride on a track? There are some people who would love to have a great day on a track but are too scared to do it on their own.

I'm not sure I'm good enough to instruct track driving. Also, I'm not the best passenger when a car is driven very fast and poorly.

great video as ever Richard. On hard braking, could you quantify how "hard" do you brake? e.g. full emergency brake till the hazards come on? Cheers!

Not so hard that ABS is triggering, but as close to that as possible
@RichardFanders
@RichardFanders 5 ай бұрын
It all depends on the situation. I try not to trigger ABS but close to that when I'm trying to slow down as late and as quickly as possible. But depending on the situation, sometimes gentle braking or only lifting off or even just reducing the throttle is enough.

Curious what is your favourite track to go to? Or perhaps is there one youd recommend to a first timer?

Hey Richard. Do you think it’s necessary to have more regular driving experience before going on track? I’m 18 and I think I’m interested in trying this thing out, how do I go about it?

From memory you have to be driving for at least a year - although I could be wrong. However, as long as you can control a car competently you should be okay as long as you drive the car within your limits and avoid being competitive with faster cars and drivers. That's the difference between a track day and racing. When you're racing you're being competitive, and when you're driving at speed and wanting to win it's not a question of whether you will crash it's a question of when. Most racing drivers crash so safety equipment is the most important thing for competitive driving. Track days are about enjoying the car and driving quickly at a level you feel comfortable at.

I'm hesitating what my second car should be after selling K11 Micra, and Miata is very appealing 😊👍 Does Gosia ever joins you on the track day? 😜

Definitely try one before you buy, for some people they're not powerful enough or are too small. She has for a couple of track days but it's not her cup of tea.

How frequently do you glance at your mirrors when driving fast on a track?

I'm not aware of when I'm doing it but I'm aware of cars behind. I think I see them in my peripheral vision first.

Recently bought a 124 and really want to take it on a track day but a bit nervous as I’m a RWD novice. Are there any you’d recommend around the southeast?

Absolutely Bedford Autodrome for a beginner. Great place for both beginners and experienced. It's quite a long lap with something for most cars and skill levels. One of my favourites. Although Cadwell Park on a warm dry day is probably my overall favourite, but that place is not ideal for a beginner and I avoid it in the winter.

If you have the factory exhaust, Bedford would be a good one since there's no elevation and you can see all the corners in advance. It's usually very low noise limit, like 87 dB if I remember correctly, so if you've even got a backbox delete, you'll probably be over the limit. Try out Snetterton if you have an aftermarket exhaust as their limit is a lot higher. If you can make the trip, Blyton Park is another good one for beginners, as it's flat and it's short, so you can learn the track quicker. Plus, their track days are usually a lot cheaper than most other big tracks, even during the summer months.
