The ridge on the base is to show shield facing. When being attacked from that angle no armour modifier would apply

Also these are from the titans legions box set which contained 1 or 2 Mega gargantas 1 imperator titan some knights like this and some bonebreakers. Bonebreaker could auto kill infantry by rolling over them on a +4

The knights came from Epic Titan Legions. Released in the year that the sprues have on them. It was a stand-alone/expansion for Space Marine 2nd Edition. It was aimed around the same scale of warfare as Adeptus Titanicus but had none of the campaign game in it. Loved the Imperator titian with enough room in each leg for a regiment of Guard.

These were introduced with Titan Legions, the best version of Epic ever! The ridges were to use when determining if a shot from the front hit their shielding since it wasn’t a full 360 protection. IIRC, Epic 40k didn’t use them so you may have seen examples from that era, or from simply not using those bases as they’re more a gaming aid than a required base.

Bought the chaos detachment and can say it's entirely worth it value wise and i love the models in them as a way to go from kt to 40k i think it's worth it

Epic is definitely my jam. If you do end up playing, I recommend either 2nd edition/Titan Legions, or Epic: Armageddon. Epic 40,000 isn't a bad ruleset, per se, but I don't feel fits the uniqueness of the 40k factions. Go with 2nd ed. for capturing the grandeur of massed warfare in the 41st millennium, and Armageddon if you prefer a bit more of a streamlined experience that still makes the factions feel like themselves.

Cheers for this. I've just 3D printed some epic knight substitutes and I wanted a video which showed me how to paint them! Handy, though I'll be happy if mine are just 1/10th as good as these look!

There is a good sized Epic Armageddon gaming group here in the New England/Northeast region of the U.S. - Epic is a fantastic game, along with GW's other neglected game systems.

What a coincidence. I've been revisiting my epic era titan legion force recently and I've been looking at some of these boys on ebay! And yes, epic is pretty fun and there are still lots of people playing it. Mostly epic armageddon. You should check out the Net EA website, you can download all of the rules and army lists there for free now that GW no longer supports it.

Wib, as far as I can remember the little ridge on the base was intended to show where the Knights tilting shield field of protection. Just don't ask me how it works, that's far, far too far in past for me to even attempt to remember!!
