Sniper rifle helmet cam combat video footage from an undisclosed location shows a group of Private Military Contractors (PMC) reacting to a insurgent ambush on their convoy in what could be either Afghanistan or Iraq.
The video shows a Private Military Contractor switching to a Barrett M107 .50 cal sniper rifle to engage the ambushers during the firefight.
Interestingly about this video is the usage of the Barrett M107 .50 Cal during an actuall dynamic firefight and not in a static situation as videos from this weapon in combat usally show.
The Barrett M82 (standardized by the U.S. military as the M107) is a recoil-operated, semi-automatic, anti-materiel precision rifle developed by the American company Barrett Firearms Manufacturing.
Also called the Light Fifty (due to its chambering of the .50 BMG 12.7×99mm NATO cartridge),[1][2] the weapon is classified in three variants: the original M82A1 (and M82A3) models, the bullpup M82A2 model, and the Barrett M107A1, with an attached muzzle brake (designed to accept a suppressor, and made out of titanium instead of steel). The M82A2 is no longer manufactured, though the XM500 can be seen as its successor.
Despite being designated as an anti-materiel rifle, the M82 can also be deployed as an anti-personnel system.
A private military company (PMC) is a private company providing armed combat or security services for financial gain. PMCs refer to their operationally deployed personnel as "security contractors" or "private military contractors".
The services and expertise offered by PMCs are typically similar to those of governmental security, military or police forces, most often on a smaller scale. While PMCs often provide services to train or supplement official armed forces in service of governments, they can also be employed by private companies to provide bodyguards for key staff or protection of company premises, especially in hostile territories. However, contractors who use armed force in a war zone can be considered unlawful combatants, in reference to a concept outlined in the Geneva Conventions and explicitly specified by the 2006 American Military Commissions Act.[1] There has been controversy over whether PMCs in active combat zones should be considered mercenaries.
The services of private contractors are used around the world. P. W. Singer, author of Corporate Warriors: The Rise of the Privatized Military Industry, says "In geographic terms, it operates in over 50 countries. It’s operated in every single continent but Antarctica." Singer states that in the 1990s there used to be 50 military personnel for every 1 contractor, and now the ratio is 10 to 1. He also points out that these contractors have a number of duties depending on whom they are hired by. In developing countries that have natural resources, such as oil refineries in Iraq, they are hired to guard the area. They are also hired to guard companies that contract services and reconstruction efforts such as General Electric. Apart from securing companies, they secure officials and government affiliates. Private military companies carry out many missions and jobs. Some examples include close protection for the Afghan president Hamid Karzai and piloting reconnaissance airplanes and helicopters as a part of Plan Colombia. According to a study from 2003 the PMC industry was worth over $100 billion a year at that time.
According to a 2008 study by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, private contractors make up 29% of the workforce in the United States Intelligence Community and cost the equivalent of 49% of their personnel budgets.

Nice one reviving this piece of footage, been a hot minute since I've seen it. Little more detail-- this was a PSD (Protective Security Detail) for a convoy, the other most common mobile detail is a TRT- now called an ERT (Emergency/ Tactical Response Team), which as the name says go out and get people out of bad situations. VIP protection details can also be called PSD's, these 3 types of mobile details are the bulk of Worldwide Protective Services Contracts (WPS) apart from Force Protection Services (stuff like mobile base patrols, tower and static guard positions, etc.), operating on contract for the DoD and State Department in large. WPS contract also entails Embassy protection and work out of Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) stations. PSC/ PMC's that operate under these contracts overseas also generally hold Federal contracts for CONUS/ Domestic functions and operations and other foreign non-combat arenas, to include further embassy and military base protection, protection of Federal offices and administrative buildings, and Emergency Response/ Disaster Response operations under FEMA and other agencies-- as well as more specialized operations under OGA contracts and special task forces. Armed Private Sector Services aren't even nearly the majority of what the private sector offers either-- anything from sanitation, food service, fleet vehicle/ motor pool mechanics and maintenance, HVAC, Electricians, Trucking and Transport, Intelligence, and Administrative services all flourish in the privatized sense. There are a lot of jobs and job types out there for people interested in this kind of work overall. Average pay in the earlier years of Security/ Paramilitary Contracting specifically during GWOT/ OIF/ OEF was up to 800 bucks a day (sometimes more for certain OGA contracts), unfortunately the pay scaling in tandem with much heavier regulation/ restriction and company and federal policies have dragged down pay to today's average of 250-450 bucks a day (depends the company size, contract type, etc.), still pays okay but it isn't anywhere near what it used to be. Same goes for some other aspects of the job, namely company bloating and re-structuring alongside said policy, and some equipment quality aspects due to such. Gotta work with what you got, but sometimes it's not much better than what the bad guys are using nowadays.

Afghanistan, most likely Civpol(civilian police) mentor mission judging by the unarmored f350 and carry handle m4 the guys at the end are toting around.

PMC are crap. Sit that dam rifle on the hood. So much easier to get a clear shot. Or lay down on the back of a vehicle. He was firing from a horrible position.

This guy was obnoxious and poorly trained. Fire starts coming in and hitting trucks next to him so he just stands up and stays still. Those guys at the end were a joke too. 2 super old guys and a fat dude.
