Thank you, mate! You're right, and I found out that the zoom-in or ADS time for the holographic is the same as the those you mentioned! So that's quite an advantage unless you're doing close-quarters all the way.

hey lvl, when you were talking about the laserpointer around 5:00 thats why there is a toggle laser/flashlight button, if you go longrange, you toggle it off, you go sprinting to a diffrent location you toggle it on so you will always be prepared for incoming players you didn't expect

The hk417 comes in three different variants. One variant, referred to as the "assault model," has a 12 inch standard barrel and is fully auto capable. The second variant, referred to as the "recon model," has a 16 inch barrel(accurized or standard) and fully auto capable as well. The third variant, referred to as the "sniper model," has a 20 inch accurized barrel, and if I'm not mistaken, is semi auto only. BF3 uses the recon model, which should technically be fully auto capable.

I think in btf4 is going to be considerd a dmr based on the size of the clip and the amount of rounds u get and since its semi automatic and a 3 shot kill instead of 2 its definitaly a dmr

A question that might be interesting. When playing a recon, especially with bolt action, how do you attack a map/objective? For example playing rush: how do you approach the objective? What spots do you look for? How far away do you stay/close do you get? For conquest or CTF as well, how do you approach for example a flag in conquest? (of course that's different for all maps, but maybe a few examples would be interesting) Or the enemy cap point on a CTF game / defense of the own flag?

You shouldn't forget that you can stick a heavy barrel on the SKS, according to symthic it bumps up the bullet velocity to 590m/s giving it a bullet velocity second only to the m98b, it also makes it more accurate than the M417 while still having less vertical recoil. Only disadvantages are worse hipfire (Still on par with the M417 without a laser) and you lose the ability to OSK.

If you want the best of the medic and sniper kits, the G3A3 semi auto mode, with any optic. You are set for almost any range.

Also, notice in the video, tactics played as much of a role as is the use of the weapon, Tactics > reflexes most of the time. Flanking, getting the jump on the enemy will always yield good results when using the a DMR.

The M417 is my favourite sniper now and I don't mean for CQB. I put a 8x scope, bi-pod and maybe a suppressor depending on gamemode/map and sneak up on the flanks and take out enemy snipers and soldiers in quick repetition 1 shot 1 kill.

a great trick for using you lasersight with a sniper is binding the laser key to the right mouse buttojn so it turns off when you zoom in

M39 is a heavier Marksman's Rifle (ADS accuracy, less recoil/affected surpression/10 round mag) M417 is a lighter Battle rifle (CQC, 20 round mag) ideal for closer engagements

LevelCap, you should use the Russian HOLO sight (the PKAS?), it's my favorite sight for battle rifle along with the Russian 3.4x scope.

SKS for close to medium silenced. M417 with ACOG, silencer, bipod. Yeah the bullets are slow but you learn to deal. Once bipoded a hit marker just means to let loose, you can fire alot faster without waiting for the gun to settle. Medium to long range. I've messed with the other semi snipers and only having half the bullets just makes them alot weaker. All of them have power and bullet speed issues so a bolt action is the logical answer for long range.

As u said the beacon on tdm is mainly used for getting to the rooftops the m60 is the best LMG for rooftop "mg sniping"

You have a logical point. I went a game where this guy went 50+/20+KDR only using the M417, with nothing on it at all. This was on HC,Domination maps and he was just breezing through players and I found him to be a serious pain when a lot of the weapons are nerfed to hell and then someone has a cannon that overpowers everything lol

the M417 isn't a sniper rifle, though classified as one on BF3, it is a DMR, or Designated Marksman Rifle, or also known as a Battle Rifle.

I don't see them as much on Rush, because I see a lot more M16, M416, and AEKs. The Recon class is too limited to be really useful on MOST Rush maps. But then again, on Endgame maps it seems that there are a ton of Recons. I mean semi-autos have been shunned throughout BF3 and have finally become relevant, which I think is nice for weapon variety.

Watch the video, he explains it all: the rifle does 50 damage per shot within its effective range and can kill in one shot if you aim for the head, that's how he needs only 1 or a couple of shots to down an opponent.

On op metro, you can swim up the right side to avoid attention and then put a beacon behind the rock. At this point, make sure your whole squad (including you) is using supressors. You can distract and harass the enemy this way, just don't let the opposition discover your spawn beacon or its all over.

thats why use the acog or the 3.4x scope deadly at long range for an ar but enough zoom to harass bipod pros and you get no scopeglint.

actually, as it is, both the M39 and M417 have the SAME hipfire accuracy, and the M39 actuallly has a very slightly faster ROF, the only thing that really seperates the two is the M39's much better ADS accuracy and the M417's much greater magazine size. Also the M39's better muzzle velocity. So it's really if you want better accuracy or more bullets

I have 2 questions if you manage to read my comment: 1. Why the M417, and not the M39 EBR, with its slightly higher rate of fire, faster bullet velocity, tighter spread, and extendable magazine to compensate for having 11 bullets by default instead of M417's 21? 2. Why the KOBRA scope and not the Reflex RDS for faster aiming if you're using a medium-range scope anyway?

M417 (HK 417) is aucctaly a Assault rifle. That is why uts 20/21 rounds in one magazine.

I'm actually using M416 with single-shot and ACOG sight and it rules! It isn't so powerful and accurate like M417 but you can bring a medkit with you and you can do lots of kills!

M417 is an absolute beast, I've grown really fond of it and use it for pretty much all TDM and Rush matches (plus I'm completely sick of Assault + M16/AEK :P). This gun could be considered borderline overpowered if you factor in the magazine size and CQC potential with headshots, it is also perfect for countering a bolt-action sniper/bipodded LMG'er over long distances and you can stay on the move. But really, the Recon class really deserves such a gun because overall it feels so weak :(

I prefer the Motion sensor. It does detect enemys every 2.5 seconds, while the MAV detects every 5 seconds. Even though the MAV beeps every 2.5 seconds. And I think that in 5 seconds people can run up to me without beeing detected.

Hey Lvl..try the M40 with straight pull and either ACOG of PK-A scope. It's not semi-auto but is the fastest firing bolt action. If you're accurate enough, which you are, this gun is a beast.

I would really say using tactics will give you an edge in a game where everyone runs around spraying or camps in a corner (That summarizes what Battlefield is now anyways v.v) I use BRs and DMRs since I generally suck with Sniper Rifles but my repertoire never really leaves my SKS and SVD DMRs. The M417 is pretty damned OP given the statistics, it has a higher rate or fire, good ranges, 30 round box and does more damage then the M98B.

I would think not, the M417 suffers the most when suppressed, and has the slowest bullet velocity out among all the DMR's, even the SKS has a faster bullet velocity if memory serves. What does this mean? Longer range moving targets are harder to hit when compared to the other semi auto rifles. The bullet drop is more severe as well if I recall. The M417 is fine, it has it's niche that it fills but it's far from being OP IMO.

Well, technically the M417 is only available to the Recon class, and the Recon class is described as being the only class to use sniper rifles. So technically, it is (in BF3).

Fact is, the damage from Softcore transitions ino Hardcore as well, which puts all the way above the rest of the rifles. The suppression it can give is ludicrous if spraying and if one bullet hits you by chance, thats it game over. Nerf the damage of the weapon a bit, not a lot. But if I can survive a .338Mag or .50BMG with three rounds in the chest. I should have no problem taking that 7.62x51

There is a reason a lot good recons use high power scopes... It forces you to unzoom a lot and be any where because you KNOW you only can see out of a small circle on your screen. I know I unzoom after every sv98 or M40 shot because of the limited view the 8x scope gives you...

All attachments for M417 are either pointless or end up doing more harm than good. The only one worth considering is laser for more accurate hipfire (if you're constantly in CQC) but really, all this gun needs is Holo/Kobra sight and it's good to go! Keep in mind that going up against a typical lvl 100 Assault who uses M16/AEK all day you're going to lose in short-midrange encounters because suppression REALLY hurts a lot of Recon weapons.

Agreed, the Recon class doesn't feel anywhere near as useful as the other classes IMHO, perhaps if we had C4 that would help. But where the M417 suffers the most (as with all sniper rifles) is suppression. All the enemy has to do is simply spit in your general direction and your accuracy goes down the drain. The M417 & SKS are truly great for the more aggressive, run and gun style of "sniping" IMO, perfect for the type of recon player's that actually PTFO (Plays The Fricken Objective)

Well said, although I must disagree. I find it hard to hit targets at moving range yes, however this is not the weapon's intended effective range. Hitting a target at long range with the wrong weapon SHOULD be hard, as there are other weapons to fill this role. Mind you, inside of its effective range the M417 (naked) does seem to out preform the other battle rifles in terms of balanced recoil, accuracy, and fire rate as well as magazine size. Although you do have a point, a well stated one!

This video paints the weapon as overpowered to all hell. Its accurate when aimed, ita accurate when fired from the hip and then it augments them through attachments, you also quote its damage as being powerful and your playing Softcore two shotting everyone. Weapon is OP, nuff said.

lvl, coudln't disagree with you more about the recon rooftop thing. I think this is an aspect that distinguishes battlefield from all the other fps games. You can go anywhere you want on a huge map; recons spawning on a rooftop is just an extension of this.

for bf4 I wish they put in a feature that allows you to choose if you want to spawn on a spawn beacon by parachuting or just spawning on the ground even if the beacon is outside, I hate it when someone asks for ammo so I say "sure I will spawn on you next time I die" I spawn on their beacon and fucking land nowhere near anything useful at all.
