Back in bf3, when laser sights were amazing, Noshar aggresive recon was amazing with this gun. But a combination of the laser sight nerf, the defensive perk, and map design completely destroyed that sadly.

I prefer the M40A5 over the SRR-61 for the same reason why I prefer the RPG over the SMAW: you can compensate for what it doesn't do well, but there's no way of dealing with what it doesn't. What I mean is, if my weapon has a slow travel speed and a lot of bullet drop, I can simply lead more than I would usually. But if my weapon reloads or fires slowly, I'll just have to run for cover- I can't fix the fact that my weapon isn't good at that. So with enough practice, anyone can do whatever the SRR-61 does just as well, but it's impossible for an SRR-61 user to be as effective as an M40A5 user.

Defibrillator Medic bag Grenade of ur choice Combat medic Try to use this offensively and stay on the front line when your side is winning. Try to stay out of fire and instead use ur defibrillator and grenades. If loosing try to go on the flank out in the snow. The M40A5 and all bolt action snipers really come into their own in hardcore. The M40A5 is my go to sniper because upper body shots are still lethal in hc. I would like to see you do a sniper Sunday in hardcore and see how that changes the dynamic for you.

I actually used the M40 with a suppressor for a while. It was mostly for medium range covert combat, but I once scored two hits in a row at around 250 yards without using the range adjustment. With practice, it's a silent beast.

M40A5 with a 4X like the ACOG or a 3.4X, flash hider and straight pull bolt is my go to for small map like locker/metro style recon play. No lens glint to give you away and one shot kill on narrow shooting lanes makes for a good time. With the fast handling and quick follow up shots the M40A5 offers it is the go to for aggressive recon play in my book. Try the ACOG sights on this rifle, you might really enjoy it.

I love it supressed as a PTFO sniper rifle on rush; straight pull is an absolute must. If I had more skills I'd try to run it with an ACOG or even a red dot but so far the 6x works for me.

I don't think its a really good sniper, but it's up there! My favorites are: 1: CS-LR4, I unlocked everything within a couple weeks. 2:338-Recon, Powerful! 3:JNG-90,Bad scope, but really powerful! 4:Scout Elite, I get 1 hit kills almost every shot! 5:SRR-61, Really good, but its overused, and I don't love using guns that are popular.

+SY Hapless, In a rush game once, I was defending on Hainan Resort. A bloody good long-range sniper who was ATTACKING camped on the boat all the way through till the end with the exact same primary-weapon-loadout as I picked. He picked us of and they pushed through to win. I thought he was the best player on the server because of not only his extremely good marksmanship, but his witty thinking: keeping us 'trapped' essentially. That's why I picked the long-range SRR-61 sniper loadout because I thought it would be interesting to see LevelCap try this sought of playstyle (quite the opposite of his comfortable playstyle, I bet).

Great gun for lockers, metro or any I can try centric mode or map. Plus if you throw your preferred 4x zoom scope of choice, you avoid the scope glint. That has saved my bacon in metro

The GOL is my favorite bolt action sniper rifle. Fast muzzle velocity and fast RPM. Best of both worlds. It does have less bullets in the magazine as a result of this however, but if you are in CQB 5+1 is usually enough and at range a reload doesn't really matter.

M40A5 is most consistent across the mildots, you never have to zero if you learn to compensate by just raising your scope: M40A5 equipped with 20X and 100 meters out is first mildot below center crosshairs; 500 meters out is exactly 5 mildots below center crosshair. Every mildot below center crosshair represents another 100 meters out fairly accurately and consistently, even all the way up until the scope drops off (like 1200 meters or something, don't remember how many mildots are on the 20X, but I think it's 12). I just never got behind the whole scope-zeroing thing in BF4 because I developed my skills without it in Bad Company 2 and BF3, but most importantly, if you play recon fairly aggressively and are constantly on the move, you won't have time to fiddle around with zeroing scopes, nor will you be shooting from the same distances throughout a match.

Before the CS5 or whatever it is, the M40 was seemingly the best aggressive SR for use with a 3.4x and suppressor. It'll give you trouble at range if you're trying to pit it's muzzle V against the other rifles, but it really isn't meant to be a sniper's rifle so much as a kind of spear, more like a slow-firing DMR. Think along the tempo of a javelin thrower, at medium support range.

Best use for the M40 in my opinion is to slap an ACOG on it and just play the aggressive sniper, much like you said in the end of the video.. The ACOG takes away the scope glare so you're more stealthy. For the same reason, laser sights are useless because a lot of times they give away your position before you get your first shot off, and that's bad. You get that first body shot, enemy spots you, 1sec later you unload another shot and he's dead. As you said, headshots are risky because of the bullet velocity, so just go for the double body shot. Not your traditional sniper rifle usage, but for me, works better than anything else. Very versatile.

M40A5 is my top weapon in BF4 and BF3. I liked it better in BF3 since i knew the bullet trajectory perfectly. You should try the SV98

At the beginning of my summer holiday I decided to become M40A5 expert. I had something like 800 kills on it and my top #1 gun was GOL magnum (because I liked it's look lol). It was just bullshit trying to learn the M40A5 bullet drop. So I watched "pro" videos of playing with the gun and most of them were playing metro so I thought I'd give it a shot. I got a lot more kills but also died a lot because didn't yet know how metro worked. Anyway, I had a blast. Now I have 10,000 kills with the gun and I'm still not really THAT good with it but now I can deal with the slow muzzle velocity even on other maps. But really, they are not lying when they say that it is the best sniper rifle in the game if you know what you are doing. You can kinda compensate for slow bullet but how do you compensate slow bolt? You'll be having real hard time trying to outplay a good M40A5 sniper with other bolt actions.

the m40a5 is best with a medium range scope, and excellent at counter-sniping up to 200m (beyond that is doable, but gets really difficult). last year i spent a month with the m40 every day, and every time i saw a distant scope glint, i knew i most likely had a kill waiting for me. at very long range, due to the rapid fire rate in a sniper-vs-sniper strafematch you can get alot more followups than him at where you think his head is going to be as he moves around :) play with it enough, and the bullet drop becomes second nature. sure, you'll miss some shots and gauge wrong occasionally, but it feels pretty good to scope up and almost instantly know how high to aim. the zeroing feature is the blight of skill and rapid target aquisition, never used it in my life :o not entirely true, I did try it out at first, but its just so slooow if you want to do it accurately and targets pop up at places you didnt pre-zero for ^.^

If you have skill, this is simply the best sniper rifle out there. Currently I have 11860 kills with the M40A5, so when you said mastery dog tag I laughed quite a bit:D It is definitely better in Rush then Conquest, because of the lower average engagement range. Your biggest mistake was to use the 93R as a sidearm. Go with a P226 with laser sight and go hipfire only while dodging, due to your higher moment speed when hipfiring. And the end of the day it takes practice and you have to learn how to dragshot. Once you learn that the rifle is amazing. Setup: M40A5(8x, but preference, straight pull bolt, laser sight if you want, gets you spotted without helping much, but then again scope glint does too) P226(lasersight, sight if you want, but I always hipfire while strafing) C4(gotta blow up tanks and walls somehow) Spawnbeacon(parachute C4, generally useful in rush) or T-UGS(small maps like Locker, where beacon is useless) Spec-ops field upgrade(no brainer. you don't wanna aim down your sights for ages, since you want to leverage that RPM, so the Sniper one is useless. Spec ops grants you more C4, faster despot, getting around motion sensors and upgrades your tugs) Yes the recon takes time and skill but nothing is more fun then owning an ACE 23 tryhard in close quarters with a bolt-action

The McDeath infiltrator class Cs5 8x scope or any other sight Custom suppressor Range finder optional Straight pull bolt Compact 45 Iron sights Suppressor No accessories C4 PLD or motion sensor of any kind Flash bangs or smoke Spec op feild upgrade or shadow And any camo you see fit depending on the map. Purpose of this class is for sneaking behind enemy lines and flanking. C4 for making you unpredictable, to make quick escapes from your enemies and to pretty much blow stuff up. Same for the quick escape for the flash and smoke. Have a great time level and I hope you pick my class for your next loadout.

LvlCap, Since when you're sniping you "like to put as much distance between me (you) and my (your) enemy", you should use the SRR-61 w/ 40x Ballistic Scope, Range Finder/14x Variable Zoom, Flash Hider, Bipod. Good luck sniping and a tip: try large rush maps and just snipe from your base or further and behind a small, concealing rock. GOOD LUCK!

The M40A5 was much easier for me to learn than the SRR-61, even if the SRR-61 is the better gun in the end. I think the increased bullet drop for the M40A5 made it easier for me to track my shots over distance and "zero in" mentally a lot faster.

Try running this with a 6x scope. It's a lot more comfortable. Then again, I often run the 4x on fast rechamber bolt actions. Afterall, I play console. 450m/s is -carbine- velocity, that just doesn't make sense to be putting a hi-power optic on. I wish the 6x scopes were allowed on DMRs, as well. (the SR338 does not count.)

Can you do a revisit for the L96A1 sniper rifle after its' recent buff? It has a similar fire rate compared to the gol magnum but with a larger mag. Both have a 580m/sec muzzle velocity but the Gol has a longer drop off for dmg and faster reload.

Sniping is my forte. I love it. I can hit people easily at 1500m or more with no trouble at all. That being said, I hate the M40. Cool rifle IRL, but with the kind of sniper I am, and the way the game plays, the rifle is next to useless and is only slightly more usable than the CS5. Most people would put reflex sights on their snipers and "snipe". In my opinion, anything less than a 6x scope doesn't belong on a sniper rifle. The way I see the game, an M16A3 or HK416 or some other assault rifle or even light machine gun is good out to 200 meters. Especially so if you have an ACOG and a stationary sniper. Really anyone who wants to reach and touch a sitting sniper at anything less than 200 meters, they can. I have personally done it and have had it done to me. This fact renders the M40 useless to a legitimate sniper. Having (suffered) through 500 kills with the M40, trying to sit and snipe, it is the most underpowered of the already weak sniper rifles. The M40 is only good for what shouldnt be in the game. Red dot sight scru... shooters.

i dont see much footage of using silencers on the higher muzzle velocity (M98B is my pick) rifles. i use ACOG, straight pull and tri-beam and it takes an age for the enemy to work out where the fire is coming from. working at an effective distance for an ACOG reduces the disadvantage of increased bullet drop, cause you're pretty close anyway, its basically trading damage for rate of fire but with the benefits of a silencer. thoughts?

Ever since the update they changed the bullet drop for the M40A5. I was used to the old bullet drop, and now i have to relearn it

i love the m40a5 I have 5 times as many kills as any other sniper rifle, ive tried them all but the rate of fire and the magazine size just seem to work for me better than anything else

For me the m40a5 excels over the faster muzzle velocity weapons by the satisfaction of getting headshots with it, just love the gun when I play well with it :-)

My fav aggressive recon loadout is JNG90 with JGM 4x optic. Muzzle velocity > every other stat for sniper rifles.

RPM is way more important for aggressive recon. (I still love the JNG though :D)

Yep I'm The God Who Never Misses... Using The SRR-61 & The CS5 My Two Favorite Snipers... It's Also Hard To Compensate For The Bullet Drop On The CS5 And That's Why I Like It Because It Gives Me A Challenge And It's A Faster Shooting Bolt Action

ive always used the SRR-61 (i have more than 1200 kills), but when i changed to the M40A5 i found myself doing much better (i initially had 200 kills with it)

After getting about 1000 kills with the M40A5, it is an excellent weapon to slap an acog or rds with suppressor for close quarters. Don't slap on a 6x or higher, the muzzle velocity just is not enough....
