There's an editing mistake there at the point I talk about the battery mod and latch-up. I could edit and re-upload, but it wouldn't be a GadgetUK164 video unless it had mistakes :o) There's a mistake at the end of the video there regards that resistor size too - orange as the first band would indicate a "3". I think it was 390ohm - doh!

I dip my unclogging spike for my desolding gun in my flux paste before cleaning out the nozzle, make it work much better. but I do still recommend that you put a bit of wire-wool in the collection tube as it helps immensely with cleaning it out. Keep up the good work :)

BRAM VCC pin is connected to +5V through a diode. If you remove the battery, even if you remove the whole charging circuit, while you keep that diode, BRAM still has power when the board is powered. Also BRAM VCC pin is connected to the battery with another diode. This diodes allow BRAM to use battery power when +5V rail is below battery voltage while prevent battery to be connected stright to the +5V rail. The mod just removes the current limiter resistor that allows the battery to be charged.

I thought it might do - I could have quickly checked at that point I guess on reflection!

I think glue on cap is here to limit vibration, whitch can implies whining or any unwanted phenomenom. If a factory do this kind of thing you'll be certain that there is a reason for that. It can be ugly but a factory just want to do reliable and valuable thing, not make some art ^^ @GadgetUK164 For your Supergun, the problem is the location of the resistors, big connectors are too near them. You can use smaller resistors with the same power ratings and solder them horizontally. Sorry if my english is a bit rough ^^

I wonder if someone had a cart that was mucky and decided that after cleaning it, it would be a good idea to add solder to some of the pads on the edge connector of the cart itself, left it and it gradually fatigued the fingers on the connector? Anyways, great couple of vids you managed to put out Gadge, your patience and persistence is way beyond others. Exceptional work mate.

just a tip for removing adhesives. xylene (xylol) works wonders and wont damage plastics, paint, or clearcoat. i work in vehicle wrapping and we use it all the time to loosen the adhesive after a rough removal. just apply, let it sit for a minute or two, and scrap off with a plastic razorblade or your fingernail. Clean with ipa or denatured alcohol twice to remove all the solvent

Well done for fixing a board with a hole drilled through it. looks like someone used a small ball mill to drill the old capacitor leg out, you can see the tell tail marks from the ball mill skimming on the solder resist on the top side of the PCB. least when i do it i use a very fine PCB drill.

Never tried that! I migth give that a go - but I imagine it could be dangerous to use with certain plastics on sockets?

I was curious if there's a reason why you're not using a gasoline product to remove the sticker glue? That always works really well for me, no issues with dissolving paints so far. Enjoying the series.

Hey mate, I have the same motherboard and am running into sound issues and the occasional z80 error (using a 161 to test). Games will play the jingle on bootup however will go silent afterwards for the majority of gameplay but will occasionally play the jingle or other misplaced sound effects when i am doing specific things such as a special move or the results screen. Was just wondering if you could offer some tips on where on the mobo I could start to check for problems, cheers :)
@GadgetUK1645 жыл бұрын
I would try testing with something other than the 161in 1 (ideally an original cart). There are a few things on the 161 in 1 that might cause issues - ie. a bad cart, or on the older 161 in 1 revision the PCB was too wide for the slot which meant it could make a bad connection sometimes - you had to shave the PCB edges down on the rev 1 161 in 1 boards. Beyond that I would start by looking for bad traces or solder points. Also try cleaning the cart slot and inspect the slots to make sure none of the pins are bent upwards (as in this video). Finally, you might have a faulty IC somewhere - the Neo-C1 and Neo-D0 have responsiblities for sound too. You could use the SMK Dan diagnostic BIOS like I do to try and diagnose the fault further.
